Any chance Atlanta moves one or both this winter?

While we don't know how the new Atlanta ballpark is going to play for hitting stats, but the move out of PETCO has really benefited Kemp. While the sabermetric numbers don't rate him favorably, 30 HR/100 RBI guys don't grow on trees in today's game. Kemp may serve as Freddie Freeman's power protection and I'd imagine the Braves will hold onto him to further build up his value.

Markakis, though, is playing on a reasonable contract and could have value to any given team. In 2016, he drove in the most runs he had since 2009 (89) and third most in his career. He plays a good right field and also drew 71 walks this year.

Thoughts?

You don't need sabermetrics to realize a corner OF (Kemp) with a .304 OBP has very limited value. He should be a DH at this point.

They're completely different hitters, but they're about the same OPS+ wise. Markakis is much cheaper and at least plays acceptable defense and has generally been a 2 WAR player... Kemp has mostly been replacement level since 2012.

Markakis or Coco Crisp at their current salary? I'd take Markakis is a landslide...

I think Kemp gets traded, doesn't seem to be what the Braves should be going with at this point.

The Braves' offense was pretty good after Kemp arrived. I think he will be in the lineup on opening day at the new stadium. Not sure about Markakis. I am not sure how much faith management has in Mallex Smith at this point. Inciarte likely has the most trade value of any of them if Atlanta wants to deal someone. I hope that does not happen...

It was pretty good in the 2nd half, but I'm not sure you should be giving much credit to Kemp for that. Freeman was tearing the cover off the ball before the trade, and guys like Garcia/Markakis/Inciarte hit very well in the second half.

Kemp's presence seemed to change the dynamic of that lineup. Freeman got a ton more pitches to hit for sure. Too lazy to look it up, but Kemp put up pretty good numbers down the stretch. Guys getting on at the top of the lineup surely helped RBI opportunities for the big boys.

Winning 10-12 to close the year and shitting on Detroit's playoff chances were a nice way to lead into next year. I am much more concerned about the pitching than the hitting at this point.

Okay, had some coffee...here is Kemp's slash line after ASBreak.

.287 avg 19 HR 50 RBI

.339 OBP .567 Slug .906 OPS.

Better than I thought actually.

The slugging percentage was great, but it's more like an anomaly than a sign of things to come. The OBP, even during his tear, was still just slightly above average for an outfielder. At the end of the day, his season stats finished with a .333 wOBA and a 109 wRC+; his defense being so awful that he only finished with a 0.7 WAR. Needless to say, if Atlanta can move him, they should, but I don't know that that opportunity comes up.

His defense definitely screams "DH!".
