Voynov hands down was the biggest blow.... How many guys did we trade for or rotate through trying to replace him. I disagree on Richard's and think he was gone a year later then he should have been.... Yes he was a great leader for the cup runs but that was going away quickly ....hard to lead in that way when you Have the issues he had at that time.

Definitely, my point was more he brought an attitude that is no longer within the locker room. All those guys did but there is no one in that room that brings that quality on a nightly basis.

Richards steadily declined after 2013 (probably that Bolland hit in the WCFs against Chicago) but up until his last season here, he held people accountable as did Greene and Stoll. People were pissed when Visnovsky was traded a day or two before his new mega contract with NTC or NMC kicked in for Greene and Stoll but that was probably one of the most critical trades Dumbo ever made that laid the groundwork for becoming a championship team. It was very obvious both those guys commanded that locker room not only in their words but with their play on the ice no matter what that capacity was.

It is clear as day this core has become complacent or cliquey, where they seem to be their own group and not welcoming of the younger kids coming up or they simply are not the leaders they were made out to be.

I'm going with the latter.

Thanks for info.
Now I remember one of those years when Niedermayer sat out the first couple months before ultimately returning to Ducks.

Laguna D is right, it only applies to GII RFAs. Voynov's situation is not applicable to that because he is not on the Kings' Reserve List, he is on the NHL Voluntary Retirement List.

He has no deadline to return this season, although were he to play in any league outside of NA this season but was reinstated and signed to a contract (by LA or anyone else) he would need to clear Waivers, which likely wouldn't happen as any team would claim him most likely either as a roster player or trading chip. It's ironic to think that LA would actually have the first shot to get him followed by the Blues, Panthers, Penguins and Coyotes.

Regarding Neidermeyer, he was already under contract with two years remaining on the 4 years/$27 million deal he signed in August 2005 but after their Cup win in 2007 he was unsure if he wanted to retire or not. He was suspended by the Ducks per CBA rules for a player who does not report to training camp but did not have a deadline to return to the NHL, he would simply be suspended and docked pay since he was under contract already.

He decided on 12/5/07 to return, his suspension was lifted and he came back to play about 10 days later. He finished the last year on that deal, signed a new 1 year/$6 million + bonuses 35+ deal and retired.
