Right now it has to be Marte, and, if for no other reason that he has a full time gig locked up, whereas Hamilton is still a question mark to even break camp with the Reds, much less being a full time player.

Can't argue with that. If Hamilton does win the starting CF job and hits leadoff, however, he could steal a lot bases and score a lot of runs. Could be a guy who is interesting to keep an eye on.

The difference between Marte's first and second half numbers also seem to make his potential value questionable.

I agree except for the dusty baker factor. Prospects/ youth don't get priority as they should. So he will likely not hit lead off. Will likely be hitting 8th and take away half of his value

I would still bet on Marte (right now), but if Billy is leading off on opening day, I'd prefer him to Marte since Marte would likely be drafted earlier, I see more value with Hamilton. Because as TDs pointed out, Marte's stats were pretty front heavy last season.

Marte is safer and he has more well rounded production. I like players who can give me something in all 5 categories more than I do specialists, even if Hamilton is capable of being the greatest steals specialist since Vince Coleman.

Marte needs to work on his lack of discipline, but I have to agree with the consensus - can't steal first base. You never know how it will play out at the major league level, though...Hamilton hit pretty well in AA, didn't he? Sometimes these guys don't give a shit about AAA.

Hamilton pretty much does. If he has a hard time getting on base, he might lose it though.

I also think Marte gets a pass to some extent for his second half because some of it was injury related.

Marte-safe, hamilton-higher reward....at worst hamilton will score as many points at 300 to 400 abs...if hamilton doesnt start it means he will get only 1 or 2 sbs that game.

I won't be drafting either of them to start. Probably wouldn't draft Marte unless I completely ignore the outfield until late, which is very likely. (Id assumed Hamilton was already pencilled in the opening day lineup though.)
