Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears wide receiver, speaks out on domestic abuse accusations against NFL | abc7chicago.com

They are bringing up Brandons history with Domestic violence, I guess the news is slowing down. I feel terrible for what the woman went thru in 2006, but maybe the NFL can learn from MArshall, he has been nothing but an outstanding citizen since coming to chicago. Maybe it gives the NFL hope that just throwing these guys out is not the answer, that boys become men and men can change. Most of it might be being diagnosed with an actual disorder, some of them will fight to change.

Marshall is the poster child for how someone can overcome adversity. He has/had serious problems, and he turned things around. I know this is possible for most people, but who is willing to put in the effort like Marshall did?

Also, his hard work in his personal life reflects on the field. Very impressed with him.

yes, me too. Just seemed like an opportunity to dig up old shit on a guy that had a tough time. I think everyone is tired of hearing of all these players getting in trouble, sports radio is psycoanalysis radio, calling for Rice and Peterson and Hardy to never play in the nfl again.

If the NFL were smart, they would highlight the guys that turned their lives around with help.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed that this is being brought up.

Even the shit Rice is dealing with is bullshit. Ray Lewis pleads down to an obstruction charge on a murder case (and still to this day admits no guilt or involvement in the incident) and no one says boo. The DA, the league and the Ravens failed to punish RR properly knowing what he did (based on him dragging her out of the elevator WTF did they expect, he knocked her out with bad breath or harsh words) and he's being treated like the second coming of Satan.

I have no problems with the guy being punished. I DO have a problem with the guy being punished MORE because no one in positions of authority did due diligence and played the freaking ostrich syndrome assuming the other tape wouldn't get out.

I loved Marshall's skill set when he was in Denver. Hated seeing that he went to the Bears after Miami. But it's awesome to see how he has turned his life around and met his disorder head on. I don't like to cheer for Bears players, but I quietly root for him to succeed in all games not against Detroit. ;)

I had something typed out and deleted for the sake of not trying to attack someone personally...

But answer me this...have you ever made a mistake in your life?

Should you be given a life sentence for that mistake?

You didn't see his press conference? He pulled out all the court documents showing how his ex was attempting to extort money from him.

There is always more to a story... But that is just not convenient for some people.

Who needs to watch a press conference when your mind is already made up?

I find all this moral posing by the NFL to be annoying and nauseating. It is a game, a violent game, not some showpiece of moral virtue. That people are trying to force the league to act like some secondary moral police is irritating as hell. If there are crimes committed, let the police handle it. It isn't roger goodell's job to try to change our society. I didn't vote for him, and I don't give a shit what the players do off the field if it doesn't affect their performance on it. As long as players aren't getting special treatment from police and prosecutors, then I don't care. At all. I don't give a shit how many games ray rice got suspended, and I find the forcing of Ellington out of the league before we even know Much in the way of facts yet as particularly noxious. The NOW can shove it up their own hypocritical ass. Where we're they when teddy Kennedy was sexually preying on women?

Rice was a special case though, she hit him first then spit in his face. I am pretty sure those are the circumstances that the nfl was looking at when they saw the tape the first time.

I guess he was supposed to be humiliated at the nfl player being beat by his woman.

Are you fucking kidding me? If you truly believe that bullshit you just wrote, you are a piece of shit. Why the victim blaming? The "big bad nfl player" has to knockout a 120 lbs women because she was mean? He had multiple other options he could have used to deal with that. What the fuck?

Humiliated? Ha I guess being thrown out of the league wasn't humiliating? Cause "he showed her"... Yeah I bet, he would be really humiliated if he walked away that night...would still have his job, his jersey's would still be for sale, he would still be the middling RB that he was and not a soul would care that he walked away for a person who he supposedly loves.

I'm so glad I don't have a daughter, the idea that she would have to deal with this warped thought process that still exists sickens me.

I don't think it should be as cut and dry as: IF you're arrested for a crime you sit...but...

So a NFL player, get's pissed at your sister or mother, cause they cut him off in traffic... or bumped into him with a shopping cart at the grocery store... NFL Player Punches them in the face, is arrested, posts bail... Should he play that Sunday?
Let the police handle that? Let the court system do it's thing? It didn't affect his performance...

I'm all for due process and innocent until proven guilty... does it matter they are public figures? Should it?Dialog is needed.

You're right about one thing, there is no cut and dry black and white answer. I've always tried to be a decent guy and a proponent of never hitting a woman. Maybe it's because I'm just a large dude, but I don't see it unless there is a clear danger of bodily harm(punched in the face 2x by a woman and laughed it off. Then she picked up a chunk of brick.) there is no need for it.

We also need to stop thinking this is a moral issue for the NFL. The NFL could give two shits about any of this if there wasn't a clear danger of monetary loss.

Yes my thoughts exactly. Yes rice is a scumbag, and he doesn't "deserve" his job, and if the NFL elects to discipline or throw him out and just DO IT, without all the hypocritical moral preening, I would have no problem with that. And if the public quit acting like the league is somehow OBLIGATED, it would bother me less. This is a sport. While these are popular people, let's not forget that they are just athletes playing sports, that's all. Society should not be looking to NFl players and singers and actors as it's moral voices. They are popular, but they are not truly "public" (ie government employees and congresspersons). If we as a public don't hold our public employees to moral standards but then then around and whine like babies when our non-public employees who we have chosen to inflate their societal role beyond that of running backs and linebackers, then we are hypocrites.

So, no, sorry, the suspensions and how long they are bother me less than the public's actions where it amounts to a quasi court of law when in fact it is not so at all.

Your reaction is typical. Sounds like the video showed him pushing her around, instigating, towering over her, pushing her aggressively back into the corner of the elevator before knocking her out cold. Should his options be the "mental abuse" of taking her belongings, taking her allowance, all those are being frowned about more than hitting her. He did not haul off and hit her for no reason. It was not the first time this happened. Show me a man that walks up to a woman, bullies her, stares her down, scares her to the point of pissing her pants, even throws a few punches close to her, then hits her and you have a piece of shit that deserves this.

This was between a company (Baltimore Ravens) and and employee. NFL is the governing body for said company. Where does this lead? Someone shows up on tape at your job and they should be immediately fired and banned from ever working again? That is not accused of, that is after the legal system has run its course, deals made and the party goes uncharged. The woman married him AFTER this incident took place. Its not effecting me, you or anybody else with an opinion on this. People are outraged for her, she is outraged at everyone butting into her life and ruining a mans career. This is a crazy black woman that black men tell us white people not to mess with. Maybe it was the first time he hit her, I highly doubt it was the first time she hit him.

I wonder how you would handle a daughter. Teach her to defend herself, be aggressive, dont let the man get the first shot in? Keep pushing to get the man to stop? Seems like that was Mrs. Rice's choice.

I`m almost sure they did.and I`m betting that Ray`s case was in it. js

this i totally agree..............

My story:
When me and my exwife broke up back in 1988,I found out a couple days later that she was seeing my best friend at the time.
hmmmmmmmmmm,and I do mean hmmmmmmmmmmm!

Well I ended up thumpin his ass twice and slapped her upside the head with an OPEN hand. And not hard by any means either.

She had me arrested the fucking bitch. She had the audacity to do what she did and then to have me arrested.

Did she have it coming?...........in my book hell yeah!
Is it right...............No,but when the judge gave me a 100$ fine he asked me if it was worth it.
Of course your gonna say no,but it was not even close to be satisfying.lol

ray should`ve used an open hand instead of a closed fist.

And also we will never know what went on before they even got to the hotel that night.:noidea:

Disagree totally with the bolded part. Ray should have just ignored her dumb ass and left.

There will be a clear winner in this whole abuse scandal. Escort business will boom with players worried about getting into relationships with nutjobs. You can take a girl out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the girl. Believe me, I've been trying for the past 16 years :)
