The Mariners appear likely to try to acquire a righty-hitting outfielder, and CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman has the latest on trade possibilities they might pursue. Heyman notes that the Mariners have scouted Marlon Byrd, as ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reported yesterday (on Twitter). Byrd has a four-team no-trade clause that includes the Mariners, although he told CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury that the no-trade to the Mariners and Royals “really are things that were just put on at the time being.” The 36-year-old Byrd is hitting .263/.315/.484 for Philadelphia this season, with 18 homers in 381 plate appearances.

What does everyone think of the idea of trading for Marlon Byrd? He has Seattle on his no trade clause, but when asked about it he kind of blew it off and implied if the Phillies were to trade him, he'd accept the trade for the good of the team.

He could be a good addition and due to his age, I'm not sure it would take too much to land him.

we've discussed this in the rumor thread some

it looks like the m's would have to commit around $19 million for him through the 2016 season.

given his age and declining defense, i'm not a fan of giving up much to get byrd, and i doubt the phillies will eat any of his salary in a deal.

now, if byrd and his agent were willing to keep the 2016 contract optional, it would be a little better for me.

Who would you rather trade for?

Marlon Byrd
Dayan Viciedo
Alex Rios

Marlon Byrd would be 3rd out of those for me. I think Viciedo would be the cheapest, and he did some real damage against us in Chicago. I'd like Rios but I think he'd be pricy and would be a interdivision trade unless we went 3 ways.

So I'd say
Viciedo
Rios

Byrd

I say Rios, Byrd, then Viciedo if money wasn't an issue. Of course what we give up for each has to be taken into consideration.

I'd personally say:
1. Alex Rios
2. Marlon Byrd
3. Dayan Viciedo

Viciedo may be the cheapest, but he's like the outfield version of Jesus Montero. He can't field or run and is not overly impressive at the plate. Viciedo is a replacement level player that I wouldn't give much up for and I don't see as a huge upgrade.

From what I read earlier, the option was pretty easy to obtain even if Byrd didn't require it to be guaranteed. If I remember right, and I could be off, but I think it was 600 AB's in either this or next year or combined 1000 AB's for this and next year.
