That's just so bizarre that our #2 pitcher gets sent down. What is more bizarre is that I understand and agree with it.

dredinis said it well in another thread (responding to HWMNBN, the last sentence obviously not directed at you):

Or it could be that he lost his arm slot due to fatigue based on the fact that he is on pace to pitch well over 200 innings for the first time in his life and upper management is allowing him 10 days in the minors before September call-ups to rest and re-establish his pitching motion. But hey, don't let logical decisions made by people that know FAR more then you about baseball get in the way of your illogical blind rage.

sure, in hindsight. At the time, I didn't read too many pundit or Sox fans that had a problem with it.

I never was a fan of it from day 1. Same with Hanley

I'm just bustin' your balls. But we all do that sometimes, look back in hindsight and say 'oh I knew x was gonna happen'. For example, it now seems obvious to me that Panda leaving was a terrific thing to happen but at the time I was pretty worried and bummed.

haha touche. My problem with the signing was he size....... and really only will be a gloried DH which the Red Sox are collecting like the amount of forest fires rising in California (stay say everyone in CA by the way)

We were all in that mind set. I was quite vocal about how I did not want Sandoval on a. 5-year deal, no matter the $$ attached.

But when push came to shove, and the deal was coming down to the wire, I found myself kinda hoping we kept him. I never voiced this because it was pure emotion. My reasons wanting to move on from him well (in my mind) well reasoned and solid. But he was "The Panda".

Duffy has made us somewhat forget Sandoval. He puts together ABs that we are all screaming for our hitters to put together, and he seems dedicated to the game in a way that Sandoval never was. Duffy has made it to the bigs almost completely on grit and hard work, with little natural superstar ability while Sandoval was the complete opposite. Me made it almost entirely on natural superstar ability with little-to-no grit or hard work (so the legend goes; who knows what the truth is).

Logic and reason told us all that Panda would continue to struggle with his weight purely because he didn't think it was a problem. A long term contract would be a huge mistake unless we had serious ideas towards him playing 1B, which wasn't going to happen with both Belt and Posey on the roster.

But the emotional side of me wanted to see the "Runaway Beer Truck" chug around the bases after hitting one in triples alley and slide into 3rd with outstretched arms missing the base completely due to the sheer size of his belly elevating him...he was Kung Fu Panda.

The Giants made the right decision in giving Duffy a chance and he already looks like one of the best 3B in the league, offensively and defensively.
