Man! I was just hoping they'd move Stephen up to triple A just to say that there's a Johnson at 4 different levels. And no, I'm not obsessed with Johnson's, I'm obsessed with the same last name inundating the farm system.

I was going to mention something similar, glad you posted first.

Man, when I first heard this, I thought I heard Chase Johnson had been traded, and I almost blew a gasket. Whew. Glad it is Stephen Johnson.

BTW, Chase makes his AAA debut tonight st Binghampton.
This thread would have a COMPLETELY different tone if it were Chase Johnson going east...

I wonder if the Giants fooled the Reds here, confusing them with all the Johnsons, and parting with, possibly, the lowest of all of them.

My reaction - Meh! Considering the need in the outfield right now, I can understand it. And Stephen Johnson was too far down the depth charts as a prospect, in my opinion, to net anything more. I don't know how Byrd will hit and I hope he walks at the end of the season. Too old to be considered for 2016.

I'd have gone Tito if it was Chase, maybe a tzill if it was Jordan, not sure how I'd feel if it was Chris. If there were a Johnson to trade, Stephen was the one.

Not necessarily. A "top notch" player may have a large contract that would require some negotiation to move.

Any player who is underpaid would be snatched up in a second. No way Bum would clear waivers, for example. Kershaw, however, MIGHT because he has a long, expensive contract.

Just for examples;

Yasiel Puig was placed on trade waivers, immediately claimed and LAD pulled him back

Ian Kennedy and Benoit were placed on trade waivers, immediately claimed and pulled back.

I'm looking at it this way.......Right now, while the OF is all banged up, he is as good, possibly better than Maxwell/Lollis or whoever we run out there. Once we are healthy, he becomes a pretty good 4th/5th OF and a good PH option late in games.

I would have been happier seeing Byrd go up there in the 9th inning with 2 outs trailing by 1 than to see Bum go up there...

Why bother this year is a loss. Too many injuries to key players. When they are all together they play well. But they aren't so they aren't. Wasted a potential bullpen player on a has been in a crappy season that is already over.

We are still 2.5 back in the division. I'm not considering this season a loss yet.

This. If the doyers were playing like the Turdinals, then maybe. But, at least for now, we are in it.

Unless we get swept in PIT

Because baseball is a weird sport. I didn't see 2010, 2012, nor 2014 coming.....

Relax my brotha, and enjoy the ride. ;)

Hangman, you strike me as a younger baseball fan. I say that because you remind me of me as a Giants' fan in the 90s and early 00s. After having rooted through those two decades, and then going through the 5 year run of excellence, I've learned to not put too much into a game or a month.
