LMC kinda over managed the 9th. No need to play match ups when your up 5-0. Just let Furbush get the last out no need to get cute, although its not his fault Medina sucked today I guess. Oh well try to scrap together 3-4 runs and win the series tommorrow

I agree. I think managers these days often fall into the "match-up" trap late in games when they don't need to and end up using pitchers more often than they need to. I have no problem with getting Medina up in that inning just in case, but Furbush wasn't in trouble at that time and Lloyd ended up using two more pitchers than he needed to to win the game. Obviously he couldn't have known that Medina was going to implode like that when he made the change, but with a 5 run lead and two outs to get, I think you leave Furbush in there. Furbush isn't as good against righties as he is against lefties, but he's not so horrible against righties that it'd be a mistake to leave him out there against them with a 5 run lead. Besides, Byrd might hit lefties reasonably well, but Brown doesn't and Ruiz really doesn't either, so there's a good chance that Charlie could have ended the inning without any damage or at least minimal damage, saving Medina and Rodney for game 3.

Oh well. It's over and we still won, so no harm done, but it would have been nice to be able to save Medina and Rodney for tomorrow if necessary. I'm sure they'll still be available to pitch tomorrow with Thursday being an off-day, but I think using them today could have been avoided under the circumstances.
