Most likely Mariners pick at #3

I didn’t read in depth that article on T-Mobile park so this going off of what Chuck Powell said. He said in the article it pointed out that with the “batters eye” it is a lot harder to pick up the ball from a righty than a lefty. I haven’t looked into the numbers but he made it seem like even at home the offense is pretty good against lefties. If true that is something that I think they might pass on him…just thinking aloud

Never heard that but interesting take. Might explain their love for RH pitching.

Quick stat lookup:

Mariner LH hitters hit .217 home and .222 away.

Per Savant Park Ratings T-Mobile is 19th in homers but at or near bottom in all other hitting stats. They are #1 (or worst in this case) in SO's at a 115 rating (100 is average). 26th in hard hit rate at 96.

Park Factor as LH hitter is 91 and as RH hitter is 92. Same. Last in both.

I guess I wasn't paying much attention last December 10th when the Mariners had the biggest win of the lottery and somehow moved up 12 spots in the draft from 15th to 3rd. And I guess it is too much to hope that Ethan Holliday or Jace LaViolette will fall to #3. So, we will end with yet another young pitching stud (Jamie Arnold, Tyler Bremner, or Seth Hernandez) that Dipoto will ultimately refuse to trade for MLB-established offensive talent. But at least we will have something to look forward to in July other than waiting for trades that either won't happen or will weaken our team.

The stats are a reflection of a three-outcome mentality to their approach at the plate. Hopefully the combination of Wilson, Martinez, and Seitzer will get the players to move away from that approach and employ an offense more suited to the dimensions, climate, environment of T-Mobile......if there is such a thing

That's not the batters eye, that's crap players who no longer can hit.

Which brings up my question. Dipoto says he didn't sign certain free agents because they didn't fit T-Mobile. So what type of hitters do? You can't tell by his free agent signings because there aren't any so I assume you have to look at his draft picks to see his vision of what works. Looking at our top prospects, a majority are just contact hitters with 15 homer power. Montes being an exception. With guys like Frazier, Wong, La Stella and Polanco being former signings it looks like that is his blueprint, but he just gets them too late in their careers. It doesn't really look that hard, but he is messing even the simplest things up.

Yes, that is the actual answer. I remember back when they said you couldn't hit homers at Safeco yet other teams did. It was because we had peewee hitters. It wasn't that complicated yet for Dipoto it was.

If we had mediocre pitching opposing teams would be doing even more damage. The batters eye is an excuse that the hope is fans buy into it on why this lineup sucks at hitting. Hopefully most understand that's not the case.

I remember when it first opened batters complained about the reflection of the batters eye so they painted it a different dark color. Then they put in trees. Then they took out the trees. Now it is crooked or something. Bla, blah, flippin blah.

Batter's eye and the marine layer. Those two factors never were an issue for:
Cruz
Cano
Boone
Ibanez
Ichiro
Seager
Olerud
Arod - posted the highest single-season WAR of his career (10.4) in the only full season he played in Safeco/T-Mobile
Martinez
Randy Winn
Haniger
Segura

Don't recall guys like Vladdy having a tough time hitting the ball in the 40th row either.

Like I don't doubt the park hurts people's stats. But good hitters are good hitters. Both teams have to deal with the same batters eye, the same park dimensions, the same marine layer. The M's pitching benefits from this just as much as the opponent. No reason you can't have a team that wins 5-3 on the road and 3-2 at home.

Well then Chuck Powell is a liar or misrepresented that aspect of the article . Like I said I didn’t look into it at all. But I fell for it just cause regardless of the actual numbers it does seems the team did better.

If it is Arnold and they are more than 3 games out expect Gilbert or Kirby to be dealt.

Maybe management can put a bunch of clowns running around the batters eye

IMO a problem is there is no way to judge someone’s mental capability. You can tell with Teo the ballpark was in his head. You can’t walk up to the plate already be defeated. And I think that happens a lot. I brought this up earlier but JP always complains about how he wants the roof closed cause he hits better but numbers were pulled up that he doesn’t.

Just an excuse to deflect from Jerry's horrible lineups he gives the coaches.

I replied to the tweets from all of the “experts” about my theory about the correlation of them upgrading the big screen above the batters eye vs the big production slump. I mean it sucks that, that’s when the M’s decided to run out at AAA lineup but somehow people are pretending the ballpark has always sucked. You didn’t hear about marine layer when it first opened. You started hearing about it around 2008 when it the offense sucked. Then when Cano and Cruz got here, everyone started laughing off the marine layer. And now it’s back
