Been thinking about what the ms should do for next year cuz there hasnt been any hope for this season for a long time now.

The ms look to finally have some interesting young pieces and i believe this upcoming off season we will finally see the ms make a splash in free agency. Man i hope so.

I think the starting infield, starting catcher, and atleast 4 maybe all 5 of the starting rotation will come in house but the outfield needs a complete overhaul, at least 2 starters. So heres my list of possible free agent outfielders from best to worst:

Jacoby Ellsbury (30)
Shin-Soo Choo (31)
Curtis Granderson (33)
Hunter Pence (31)
Nelson Cruz (33)
Corey Hart (32)
Mike Morse (32)

Then we need a DH:
Kendrys Morales (30)
Corey Hart (32)
James Loney (30)
Mike Napoli (32)
Justin Morneau (33)
Michael Young (37)

Obviously my dream off season for the ms would be ellsbury, choo and resigning morales. That would be costly but i do think a substantial increase in revenue is coming. Even so i think ellsbury, cruz and morneau would be a great haul with a cheaper price tag.

So thats what ive been thinking about let me know what you think(feel free to let me have it). Add your dream free agent off season or some trades you would want to see.

Ellsbury & Choo would be mine too if they don't resign Morales.

Only one snag in these predictions: The front office.

Stay away from ellsbury....he has only 2 full seasons out of 7. Injury prone and had one really good year. I say Choo, Pence and either Napoli, Morales or Hart. I think we need to get another arm for the rotation, I'd target Nolasco.

I like Hart as a buy low guy. He can play 1B, OF, and DH. Choo would be a good get with Ellsbury being a huge risk, but a risk we may have to take since free agents are not exactly breaking down our door to come here. Pence is also a nice option, but he sounds like a guy wanting to stay in SF. The only other guy on the list I like is Napoli for 1B/DH option. Granderson I guess to a certain degree.

I also agree with above on needing another SP. A #2 or #3 SP is needed with all the uncertainty of young pitchers we have coming up.

Felix
Iwakuma
? (Kuroda on 1 or 2 year deal, Vargas or Lincecum on a major price reduction)
Ramirez/Hultzen/Paxton
Walker

I like Walker 5th for his rookie year to limit his innings and take some pressure off of him.

Hughes is my sleeper pick. Hughes has good stuff and needs out of NY.

I'm tired of counting on free agent signings.

We have gone from Prince Fielder to Josh Hamilton and I have lost faith that the franchise is willing to spend money to win.

Oh, we aren't signing any of these guys. I was just mentioning who I would like. I play a lot of fantasy baseball which keeps me sane as a M's fan...lol.

Hes had injuries but its not that bad and hes only played 6 full seasons with more than 140 games played in 4 of those. Plus hes seemed to come back without issue this year hitting 300 with 52 stolen bases and playing some of the best centerfield in the game. Theres no way we are going to get close to that production from any other free agent CF or in house CF. But there is an injury concern with him so i couldnt blame a team for not wanting to pay top dollar.

Were on the same wave length NWinAZ. I was looking at free agent pitchers after i made this post and i came up with kuroda, vargas and lincecum. I go back and forth on wether they really need to go after a starting pitcher though. Itd be a big risk not to but with the way paxton and walker looked idk. Maybe the best option is giving lincecum a shot to get it back and if he doesnt throw him in the bullpen.

I agree with you. I think the M's should bring in a free agent pitcher and if you can get Lincecum for a good price I think its a good option for the Mariners and I think bringing in a veteran pitcher takes some pressure off the young pitchers.

I'd like to bring Linecum here. He played at Liberty High and UW so I would have to imagine he would be interested in coming back.

If this team signed hughes i would quit watching. He is possibly the worst pitcher in baseball and a change of scenery is not going to change that. The flatest fastball in baseball

good thoughts in the thread. i'd trust most of you with $85 million of payroll over the goons in charge now.

Only one snag in these predictions: The front office.

I get the sentiment. This team hasnt spent big money since the bavasi days and its starting to seem like its never going to happen.....BUT i still believe in the way jack is building this team and i still believe that the plan has always been to slash payroll, build through the draft and get some core young players for cheap THEN go after top free agents to fill the roster. We now have the young players and money to make this thing come full circle.

We have seager, zunino, miller, franklin, smoak, ackley and montero. Theres alot of potential in that list ( i know i know potential) but really we only need 3-4 of them to be good players for it to work. Add walker, hultzen and paxton to that.

In 2006 our team payroll was almost 120 mil. this off season the m's could have under 40 mil. Im convinced nows the time, with 60-80 mil to spend over the next 2-3 years.

I think either ackley or franklin is traded this offseason hopefully in a package for a nice outfielder.
