He's still a long shot to catch and pass Zunino's team high of 25 in 2017. With a lot of minor league call-ups in September, he'll face some vulnerable pitching.
He's hit six more homeruns since I made this thread 30 days ago. Seems like I'm updating this every day. And I clearly projected his total too low. He's now four HR away from tieing Zunino for first. If Raleigh continues to learn and improve, he'll have a good chance to be on the All-Star team next season.

No reason not to think he will not go yard a few more times to wrap up the regular season.

Our expanded roster, non post season opponents will be running some AAA arms out to the bump to see what they have = great opportunity for Cal and the rest of the squad to get their hitting groove on heading into the PLAYOFFS !

Raleigh gives the impression that he is a big, goofy guy, a bit socially disconnected, and not much going on in the cerebellum. But I have a feeling his baseball IQ is through the roof.

We use to call them country bumpkins though I don't think he is from the country and I doubt he is a bumpkin. But he has that look. I am proud of the guy. He has fought his way back from the bottom last year and early this year. He could have just got down on himself and played AAA ball for years but he fixed whatever and is a very valuable member of this team. Love guys like that. I wish Kelenic had some bumpkin in him.

He is very smart. He was deemed to low end of Zunino. A solid defensive catcher with pop. Raleigh was suppose to have a ceiling as a solid backup catcher because he wasn’t an offensive threat. But this why development is big and not just scouting reports. If they can get a legit catcher in the off-season Raleigh proved to be decent as a 1B last year in Tacoma (to allow France to be the full time DH)

Basically no way he doesn't pass Z at this point. Sitting on 23 with more than 20 games left? Yeah, it's hard to imagine he doesn't get 3 more.

What can you say?

Now in sole possession of second. He's hit 8 more homeruns since I started this thread 32 days ago, and has already reached the total I had projected for him. His BA and OBP could be better but he now leads the team in SLG. That's a pretty good trade off. And by the time the season is over, he'll probably pass Julio and Suarez for the season homerun leader.

I'd say the Mariners are crunching numbers as we speak to get Cal locked into an extension as we speak.

If they are not ... they are crazy
No hurry. I know this is something baseball is doing, but he is fine with his contract for now. France is our best hitter and he is in his 4th year of his rookie deal. He is making just under $750K.

100% agree. He is a catcher, sucks for him but that is a position Jerry should ride for as cheap as possible then if he doesn’t have wear and tear by arbitration then pay him.

Kelenic isn't going to make it here. Maybe a change of scenery will help him, but it isn't going to happen here. He'll get traded this winter. It will be interesting to see what Dipoto gets for him.
Changed your mind yet?

The rules have changed, teams can only add two additional players.

My mind hasn't changed. I said when he was called back up that he clearly doesn't fit this culture and would benefit from a different team. I also said he knows his only path to getting somewhere else is to play much better on this short stint back. He's doing that and it will help his trade value go up. I'll remind you that he did something similar last year in September as well.

I'm not sure Servais or his staff is the right fit for his long-term development. And his seeming rivalry with Jrod also not sustainable.

Is he going to end up being another Mariner killer for another team? Probably. He's got the tools to be a heck of a player if he keeps his head straight. I'm just not convinced he can do that here.

I wouldn't even bet that Servais plays him over Winker in the playoffs. Should he? YES, but I'm not expecting them to.

No, my mind hasn't changed, not based on four games in September. I could write a long explanatory response but instead, just read Wizard's response above. Pretty much everything he said is my response also.

Mariners have called up Kelenic, Torrens, and O'Keefe since September 1st so there are ways to compromise that rule.

My thoughts exactly

Kelenic is playing hard for a payday elsewhere since J-Rod has already robbed Mariners National Bank

Raleigh is top dog. The list is irrelevant now. And he may have hit his last one for the regular season. With O'Keefe getting called up and only six games remaining on the schedule, the Ms choose to rest Cal's knees until the playoffs start. They have four catchers on the team now.

The Mariners have a shit load more money in their bank to reward players. Stanton and co are already set financially for the few years and they just need to look at how much ticket and merch sales have gone up on a team that was fighting for a wild card. How much better would it be if they were chasing the division or god forbid a bye in the next few years.

Seattle is deemed mid market even though there is a solid argument that it is number 2 behind LA in terms of wealth.

We had some fun with this thread last year so I thought I would bump it up and watch Cal's race to 30 homeruns. He went to Dongtown again today which matches with last season's total, at 27. Last year he had 23 on September 8th and hit four more the rest of the way. I think it is reasonable to assume he reaches 30 this year.

And it made me think of something else. I wonder what the all-time single-season homerun leaders are for the Mariners at each position?

Although I don't know the exact numbers, some of the names are easy enough to guess.
Catcher - Raliegh
1B - Sexson?
2B - Boonedoggy
SS - Arod
3B - Seager?
Left Field - no idea
CF - Junior
RF - Bone
Pitcher - Anyone have more than one?
DH - Edgar
