Washington Redskins Should start Spencer Long at Center

he might be jumping the gun but last nite the run game did better when long was at center

Im on board with this move. Reason being LOng would be better than Litch in the running game at Center. If Long can make the line calls and be decent in pass pro then the move makes sense. Plus Lavou is probably the better OG than Long at 100%. Then you have Litch the backup at Center. Kojo the backup at Guard. Nske the backup at OT. Cofield to the PS or be the #9 o-lineman. I say roll with 8 olineman so you free up a roster spot.

I agree! Spencer Long should be Center, I like Kory Lichtensteiger but he's not a big center..he get's pushed back too much. Also what would we do with Austin Rieter release him?

I think Reiter is still eligible for the practice squad.

Long is just a better Center then Lichtensteiger and still has room to improve

There is no question the run game, against a very good run defense, improved dramatically in Game 2. I didn't watch closely enough to see if Long was part of the reason but I think we have all seen enough of Lich and understand we need to get bigger at that position. I like Dean's scenario of Lich at backup center, Kojo the backup guard (provided he has earned it, not so sure yet) and Tye the backup tackle.

I definitely did notice that when Spencer Long moved to Center and Shawn Lauvao was at LG on our second drive against the Jets we we're running the ball somewhat better.

Not really sure why people are sold on Long. He didn't really do well last year at guard - though part of that was inexperience, so why do people assume he'll do well at center - a position he has less experience at and that requires higher football IQ?

The first preseason game - everyone on the O-line failed - not just Lich. Nseke (sp?) showed he's no left tackle. He should probably be a guard. All along the line, it's seemed like there was a lack of coordination last year and the first exhibition game - and I think the main reasons were lack of experience and lack of a blocking TE.

I agree but lavou is the better OG so moving Long to center means that we should have a better run game. The line calls and mental stuff could be a problem at first.

Kory is likely better at shifting protections but Long seems to be improving
