I am in a salary cap ROTO keeper league where we can keep 3 players and the cap is $60 for starters. Right now I am keeping Puig $1, Matt Carpenter $.50 and Wil Myers for $.50 for a total of $2.00. I was just offered Ellsbury $4.50 for one of my players. I know Ellsbury is a top 10 player but I have guys with high upside and together are cheaper than Ellsbury. Is he really that much of an upgrade? I think he could really be good but I am not sure if I should give up one of my guys for him. What should I do?

Without knowing specifics, I would likely trade him Myers and get Ellsbury. Sure you lose 4 bucks, but you gain 40 SB.

:agree:

And, I think Yankee Stadium is a better park for Ellsbury to hit it, so his overall offensive output should be up a tic.

I'd rather have Myers and the extra $4.
That $4 is a significant upgrade at another position is how I'd look at it.
I'd keep the 3 guys you listed. :)

No way I make this deal. You can get a pretty good player for $4. That is 6.67% of your total cap and would be comparable to an $18 player with a $260 budget.

If you deal Myers for Ellsbury, you are really dealing Myers and a player comparable to Hosmer or Desmond for Ellsbury.

Once you factor in the injury risk for Ellsbury and the long term potential for Myers, this deal is not even close IMO.

Myers could out-produce Ellsbury sooner rather than later and he is clearly the better long term option even without the $4 savings.

I consider Ellsbury a pretty good player... and I would pay $18 for him in that scenario. I don't see Myers being anywhere beyond 25-10 in the next five years, something I'm sure is more available in other players than it is finding more 50 SB threats, leading off in Yankee Stadium.

Ellsbury at 4.50 is a good deal, but it isn't that far below his market value (5.00 to 5.50, give or take a little). Myers should go for 3.00 or more, so getting him for .50 cents is a better value without even looking long term.
