As a football fan what Alex Smith does this season actually intrigues me because it will be an interesting case of how important coaching, stability, and development is to a young player.

Realistically I expect him to be a poor man's Eli Manning this season. Not going to blow you away with his passing prowess like a Stafford, Rodgers, Brees, or Brady but quietly be effective, make some plays when it's needed, and run an efficient offense.

Doesn't have Eli's arm but I do think he can be a better decision maker and will have less turnovers.

I'm still a bit concerned. We didn't see much of Smith in the preseason game, but on the third and long on which we called a pass play, he became flustered by the pressure, ran, and got tackled short of the marker. Didn't really study the play, but my initial reaction was it was shades of last year.

just don't see us keeping four QB's?

it hurts to cut one but there are other spots that need a back-up worse. as it is we'll be cutting some 'new' players with potential.
