That is correct in a division race, where if they end up tied they go to a 1 game playoff. However, for home-field advantage they just go by head-to-head as a tiebreaker, and the Nats won the season series. So the magic number to clinch in this case is 1 less than if they were battling for a division because if they tie, the Nats win.

What's the magic number for Nats clinching a better record than STL. Theyre the team i'm most afraid of. And their last 8 games are: vs Cincy (2), at Cubs (3), at D-backs (3). They will prolly go 7-1

Also 6. They have the tiebreaker on us so we have to finish ahead of them outright.
