Yeah, that's it, I'm a drive by trash talker.

Piazza admitted using PEDS. Read his book.

Bagwell never admitted using PEDS, but funny how he doubled in size and started hitting 40 HR's a year all of a sudden. Even if he didn't use PEDS, he endorsed their use. A guy who cares little for the integrity of the game doesn't belong in the HOF.

Lee is 3rd all-time in Saves. He was among the elite of all-time. When you think of the greatest Closers of all-time he immediately comes to mind.

This is one of the dumbest thing I've read here, which is saying a lot.

Piazza never admitted anything.

When did Bagwell double in size? He hit 40 HR in his 4th season and was up and down in the 30s and 40s his entire career. How did he endorse their use?

Saves are a meaningless, arbitrary statistic, and the timing of Smith's career and the advent of the one-inning closer happened simultaneously, padding his save total. When I think of the greatest closers of all-time, which I rarely do because it's an extremely overrated role, he certainly doesn't come immediately to mind. If he does for you, then you either have a foggy recollection of the most dominant closers in history, or you're shrooming. Smith was a journeyman and a steady veteran reliever, but was hardly dominant, and certainly doesn't rank anywhere near the Riveras, Wilhelms and Eckersleys of the baseball world. The fact that he's remained on the ballot so long is silly, and shows how overrated the save statistic is, and how clueless the BBWAA voters are. He received more votes than legitimate starting pitchers and quality everyday players. It's insane.

Thank you.

Congrats to Glavine and Maddux! In my opinion Maddux was the best pitcher of all time who never juiced.

So if Mike Mussina stuck around to have 3 mediocre/crappy seasons where he won 10 games each year, does he get 90% of the vote?

The only righties with a higher OPS+ than the Big Hurt are Hornsby, Pete Browning (only 5315 PA), Foxx, McGwire, Pujols, Dave Orr (only 3411 PA) and Hank Greenberg. Thomas is tied with Dick Allen (who should probably be in the HOF) and Willie Mays (granted Mays had about 2400 more PA). Aaron's OPS+ is one point lower, though Aaron also had about 4000 more PA.

Hard to say where I'd rank Thomas, but he is absolutely in the conversation for top 10 RHH.

I'm also not sure how seriously you can take Hornsby, Browning, Foxx, Orr, Greenberg, etc.
