retiring. Heard this on the radio last night when Softy (KJR) was interviewing a former NFL agent. Basically, if Lynch retires, the Seahawks could take back around $5 million of his prorated signing bonus. If he gets cut, he keeps the money.

Yeah, I would do same if I were him. $5M is too much to give away like that.

That doesn't sound right at all.

The prorating of a signing bonus is a salary cap thing. He's already received that money. However it's been spread out, from a cap perspective, over the life of the contract.

He has no bonuses due so the only money he is due is salary. So if he is on the roster for the pay period then he would get whatever that money is.

But whether he gets cut or retires, he gets the same amount of money.

In real dollars, yes. But cap-wise, no. The team *can* recoup some of the signing bonus that he's already been paid if he decides to retire. If they cut him, he gets to keep it.

Can't imagine the team would try and recoup any sb money if he retires.
