Do you think that Gillis actually has some sort of leverage in a Luongo trade?

Luongo is already in town and will practice with the team tomorrow. He has publically said he will do whatever the team wanst him to and is open to waiting ... strombone isnt gonna rock the boat

As far as Gillis goes ... He is a former agent ... dont put it past him to just sit and wait ... if he doesnt think he's going to get what he wants (the reports are he's asking for the moon) he will just sit and wait probably until the Leafs figure out they have AHL goaltenders ... or the Oilers figure out Dubnyk cant handle the load or the Hawks figure out that Corey Crawford is a sieve or the Flyers figure out ... oh wait they already have

From Adrian Dater last night, who is adamant that Holmgren is going hard after Luongo.

Keep in mind: this may not work. But the Flyers' thought process as of Wed. night about their goaltending situation is as follows: they trade for Roberto Luongo, then:
1. Secretly hope that Ilya Bryzgalov retires to the KHL right away.
2. But with his huge contract making that about a 1% chance of happening...
3. Just barely sneak Luongo's $5.3 million cap hit under the cap level of $70.2 million for this season, and go with a goalie tandem for this short season of Luongo-Bryzgalov. This assumes that Chris Pronger's nearly $5 million cap hit comes off the books this year, because of LTI relief. (Long Term Injury).
4. If they don't win a Stanley Cup with that tandem they...
5. Buy out one of the two contractually. That leaves the other standing as the No. 1 guy, and then they can worry more about getting under the $64.3 million cap for next year.

So the theory is, we trade for Luongo and keep this tandem, and then buyout Bryz in the summer.

You made it seem like the Flyers have to buyout Bryz right now in order to fit Luongo on our team, which is not true.

... you made it seem like the Canucks would roll with a 9 shmill dollar goalie tandem in perpetuity ... Gills can and may wait to trade Luongo ... he wont wait beyond the draft though ... there is a market for Luongo ... and all it takes is one team to get uber-desperate and Gillis might get the high price he wants

And if I am the Leafs, uber desperate at the draft for a goalie, and know Luongo is available because he is an expensive, aging, potential backup on the Canucks, then I am not going to pay that high price.
