Are you REALLY trying to say that you would rather not kick the FG because you let 20 seconds run off the clock with two time outs in your pocket than to not get the FG because the defense made a play? WOW:L:lame:

DAD try READING my post again!!

Then explain to me how Dana's butt was saved by MD calling a TO w/ 4 sec's left in the game. WOW!! :lame:

His bacon was saved not just by UMD calling a timeout, but also by the officials missing the false start by the kicker. BUT we are talking about the ends of the FIRST half in those two games, why do you refuse to talk about the same thing that the rest of us are?

How would you know about a false start? Did you READ it somewhere?

I see your, as well as BB and Golds, points of view. Maybe we get closer, maybe we don't. Maybe a play goes all the way for a touchdown. I don't know. Give the kid a chance to kick a closer one is always good. We can play the "maybe" & "what if" game. I missed the end of the Maryland game as well, but did not have issues with the events before the half of the MD game. I guess I'm of the mindset that if I have the ball and the lead going into half, then I'm alright killing the clock. I' m not going to call time out to "practice" calling time outs. That is simply ludicrous. Right now, I see getting the team up for the second half more of a problem that we have seen in past teams. Is it that DH has more confidence in Lambert than we do?
It wasn't to practice time outs. We already had the ball over midfield. At that position get as many plays as you can. DH is always trying to squeeze out more plays. So use the timeout and run two extra plays. Anything could happen, but you don't know if you let the clock run down.

Not sure what this means... but, I would like an explanation from you how Dana's butt was saved by MD calling a TO.

I would also like you to tell me about the DL recruits of Stewart's.

And, explain to us why you feel it is OK for you to criticize Dana when you constantly whine about the CBS posters who criticized Billy.

I love how some people want to talk about the use of TO in two games we won......I guess we lucked out at Kansas as well.

I think this Texas Tech game is big for the team and staff, we have to start winning the games that we should win that are a little tougher. T Tech on the road is a tough game and we need a good showing. Give this team some confidence going into the Baylor game. I hope to see the changes we all are looking for.

One thing BB said and I agree look at what we have done to people on ST's as well...a lot of teams are struggling with the 3rd side of the ball. We have two KO's for TD's, blocked punt for safety, and a game winning FG....to go along with all the bad, might just be a sign of the times. ST's still won last week 19-14..lol

I got your point. As you mentioned, call the time outs and run extra plays. Maybe something will break giving us a TD or better field position for a FG. Practicing time outs was mentioned by somebody else and usually that is done during practices or against Townson, not a formidable opponent.

I just have the feeling that if he would have called a timeout and something bad happened, some on this board would complain about time management and play calling. I looked at the box score for the game and noticed that MD appeared to be gaining momentum. Could it have been that DH knew that both sides of the ball were playing well and wanted to regroup at halftime, not knowing that the kick coverage side of special teams would bite us so soon?

You are missing the point that there are much tougher games than Kansas coming up. Holgorsen's clock management at the end of the first half damn near cost us the UMD game, hell, we got lucky they missed the false start on the winning kick. Just as games against inferior opponents are a great time to get some playing time for the kids who ordinarily wouldn't play, the coaches need to try to practice what they would do in a tight hard fought game.

I must have been a sleep during that stretch.I was at the game...he ran the clock perfectly with one time out left!.......

Somethings different...and I really didn't focus on picking it up at the game...and its hard to see on television..something has had to change ( On Punts I am talking about) with blocking scheme...usally teams will set up a fence on either a return right or left..it appears they are dropping guys back like a wedge you would see on kick offs with 4 guys right in front of the returner...maybe the reason there are so many more muffs...too many people around the ball and the returner doesn't know who's on him...just a guess...

I was just talking about the drive at the half of the Kansas game. I missed the first half of the MD game so no idea there. I really do like calling a draw play there. The defense expects pass, so the draw could (and did) hit big. The problem is that if you don't use a time out the clock is going to keep running and you're going to waste at least 10 seconds, which they did. I'm just glad it didn't hurt us. I'm afraid it will someday very soon.

On the same page now. I thought you were talking about MD (which I missed the end of the 2nd quarter). Just trying to understand the outcry of wasting time since the outcome were both victories. There are several scenarios that I could throw out on why DH may have done what he did, but without seeing these 2 events, there may be someone out there that would misconstrue progressive thinking with excuses.

I have missed parts of every game except Townson  I better sit my ass down and watch more games (or record) these games before my Mountaineer card gets pulled.

He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. He didn't watch the game...

There was absolutely no clock management issues in the first half of the MD game. I have no idea why he keeps bringing it up. I won't even address it with him anymore... it is beyond ridiculous.

The only thing I recall is a late Maryland score and he took the air out of the ball to take a lead into the locker room at halftime....

There is also something to be said about saving time outs. Use the TO and save 10 seconds, then Clint has his helmet knocked off on the next play. You need to use another TO. No TO left to get set up for the FG. You also keep the D on their heels. I would have called the TO, but going fast and holding the TOs is no great error.
