BATON ROUGE - The LSU quarterback race heated up on Tuesday afternoon after junior Justin McMillan and red-shirt freshman Lowell Narcisse skipped practice with the rest of the team on Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday evening Narcisse had announced his intentions to transfer out of LSU and seek his playing opportunities elsewhere.

Narcisse was recovering from a knee injury he sustained at St. James high school and did not play his freshman year in 2017. However his 6-2 frame and 240 pound body have many hopeful that he could be a difference maker in short-yardage situations and near the endzone.

His announcement to transfer out of LSU comes on the one year anniversary of former LSU quarterback and Zachary product Lindsey Scott, Jr. announcing he would leave LSU and seek playing time elsewhere. Scott eventually landed at East Mississippi Community College where he played the 2017 season and is now on the Missouri Tigers roster for the 2018 year.

LSU QB's Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan both absent from practice today for first time all fall.

"They're just not here" according to LSU official. No reason given for absence, Coach O will meet with media tomorrow evening. pic.twitter.com/UOlXGN2RCA

LSU practice felt different today on offense. Just two scholarship qbs there, Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan.

The pace of practice was much slower, as Burrow and Brennan took majority of snaps and walk-ons watched. pic.twitter.com/t2ygs14YZ6

— Michael Cauble (@Cauble) August 14, 2018

The absence from practice was odd as it marked the first time that any quarterback has missed a practice session during fall camp, and it immediately sent speculative minds to work.

It was assumed that one or two quarterbacks would transfer from LSU when the depth chart starts to take hold and players see how much or how little playing time they could see in the 2018 season.

McMillan was the leading quarterback coming out of spring ball, however there was no clear choice at the position and coaches went out and brought in transfer Joe Burrow from Ohio St. over the summer.

Burrow's size and experience lend many to believe he will win the starters job, however it has been too soon in fall practices to see if any one quarterback has stepped in front of his competitors.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will speak with the media on Wednesday evening. When asked about the two players absence from practice this afternoon a school official commented, "they're just not at practice."

Sounds all fucked up.

Just another normal day with the LSU Qb spot.

I did say when they signed both Scott and Narcisse it was a waste of scholarships.

I have watched both play high school ball.

Scott was a heck of player on HS level just didn't have the size to play DI ball at P-5 school. Last second replacement that shouldn't have happened. I do hope he sees the field for Missouri.

Narcisse never should have been offered. Injuries and academic issues as well.

McMillian as a 4th yr junior has a degree and has only thrown 1 pass in his time at LSU. Glad he has a degree to fall back on. Don't see him starting for anyone any time soon.

My fantasy team needs Burrow to win the job.

That’s the sad state I’m at.

But damn losing 2 QBs in one day sucks.

But man LSU has had trouble at qb forever.

I remember when most thought Jordan Jefferson was the answer.

Metenberger had one good year.

It’s crazy how much trouble they’ve had since Jamarcus Russell.

A year ago today, QB Lindsey Scott Jr. transferred from #LSU. With Lowell Narcisse out, the updated numbers (2005-17):
13 classes
20 QBs
4 completed career at LSU
14 dismissed/departed/switched pos
9 never played a single down https://t.co/QM2GKLEf0g

— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) August 15, 2018

Also doesn't help when OC changes regularly as well and recruit players who do not fit the offensive scheme you run from one year to the next.
Recruit athletic QB who has never taken snap under center then have them run a 2 back, double tight end I formation.

LSU OC history

2018 Ensminger
2017 Canada
2016 Cameron / Ensminger
13-16 Cameron (OC / QB)
11-12 Was suppose to be Kragthrope (medical) ended up be Studrawa (who up till that point was an O-line coach no OC experience. Basically CLM ran the ground and pound 3 yards and cloud of dust like the old B1G.
07-10 Crowton (OC / QB)

Under Saban
00-06 Fisher (OC /QB)

This proves my point I do believe.

You deserve more than a like for this.

and yes it is fascinating to see.

The big whiff on guys like Harris and Perrilloux (for different reasons) obviously hurt big time as well.

I'm still amazed at the one year Mettenberger had after he seemed pretty awful most of his career.

Most of those guys look like pocket passer OCs though. Fisher, Crowton, Cameron, Canada all were for the most part, no?

You would be correct run pro style systems. However they (CLM pressured) would recruit athletic option style QB's . LSU success was due to talent not coaching under CLM. The NFL is dotted with several LSU WR's as well.

I don't know what their problem is, but it has to be more
than just coach/scheme.

Maybe they don't recruit QB's from out-of-state, enough.

Louisiana is loaded with high school skill people. Florida is
overloaded with skill people. But, I've never believed that
Florida produces ready-to-play HS QB's. The QB's down here
have to be taught fundamentals of the position.

Watch Florida state title games. They line up QB's 7 yards
off the ball and let them run right or left. They all have speed
and wiggle. Some have good arms, but they will look only
at the primary receiver and then run right or left.

Maybe Louisiana has the same problem. Most of FSU's good qb's
have always come from out-of-state. Same for Florida and Miami
with the exception of Tebow and by definition he was a great single
wing tailback, not a prototype QB.

I guess you could say that Burrow and Brennan distanced themselves from the others and lead to the transfers.

We'll swap a few QBs for some guys that can block and tackle!

Actually , going back to Russell (Alabama) LSU has recruited QB's outside of Louisiana.

Flynn, Shepard (switched position) and McMillian were all from Texas.

Hatch (07-08) Utah

Jennings (13-15) was from Georgia.

Seems we are short on them as well. In the last week to 10 days lost starting OL man. "Violation of team rules" suspended indefinitely. Believed to be drug violation. Then in last week lost LB arrested on 4 felony charges over summer in Georgia and just came to light. He played in all 13 games last yr and was a possible starter this year.

Texas seems to be a good place to get QBs. Probably a good place to start back up at. I hated Flynn but hard to argue with the ring he's got.

I left off Lee he was from Texas as well.

Going to be hard to recruit Texas now that Herman is at UT and Jimbo at A&M. Plus University of Houston hasn't dropped off since Herman left.

I don’t care if you transfer, although I respect the guys who stick it out.

But you can’t just not show up to practice and tell nobody. That’s bullshit and probably speaks to the culture Coach O ha going on over there. I like Coach O, but Im not a believer that he is a top P5 head coach.

Luckily LSU is fucked financially so this train wreck could go on for years.

Yeah, they just haven't recruited Texas well.

but you're right.

But then again there are guys there.

JT Barrett was a Texas guy who they overlooked.

I hope the 2 you have left get hurt in practice and you have to covert a WR to QB.
