Some of the non-traditional court designs that have popped up recently throughout college basketball turned out too garish for many fans' taste.

Long Beach State's, on the other hand, is distinctive without being overdone.

Since its campus is located three miles from the shoreline and its teams wear "The Beach" on the front of their jerseys, Long Beach State decided to give its basketball court a palm tree-themed makeover. Four palm trees frame the court, each in gold to reflect the look of a Southern California beach.

For a publicity-starved program like Cal State Bakersfield, there is little to lose by going with a court design that will give its program an identity. The Roadrunners finished 9-19 a year ago as a Division I independent, but they're unveiling a new floor, they're welcoming new coach Rod Barnes and they're hoping to someday soon find a conference to join.

Before this season, the men's basketball team's primary home was the off-campus 9,000-seat Rabobank Arena. Matchups with UNLV and San Diego will still be played there this year, but the remainder of Cal State Bakersfield's home schedule will be played on the sport's lone blue basketball floor.

Agreed, I like Long Beach State's and on a side note - I think Oregon's is probably the worst I've seen.
