Much as Butch Jones did shortly after being hired by Tennessee on Dec. 7, 2012, in convincing Ja'Wuan James to return for hi senior season, Jones again --- as well as linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen --- got a key 'recruit' of sorts when they helped rising senior linebacker A.J. Johnson return for his senior year. Johnson, an All-SEC performer in 2013 who owns 324 career tackles, is projected to team with a healthy Curt Maggitt to give the Vols stability and dynamic playmaking ability at the second level of the defense when spring camp opens in March. VolQuest.com had reported for the previous two weeks that Johnson would return to Tennessee.

Johnson had been consistently projected anywhere from a third- to fifth-round pick, NFL experts told VolQuest.com, but the 6-foot-2, 243-pounder from Gainesville, Ga., will have a chance to improve those projections with one final year at Tennessee.
