i respect what Lou has to say about it...i really do. i think Lou may win out on this one. however, that could really set back any advancements in closing the loophole. kinda torn i guess...this should've stopped with the hossa deal, but i'm happy that at least something is happening.

If the NHLPA grieves the leagues decision, the contract remains dead until an arbitrator decides otherwise.

okay, at least for me this clears it up a bit. so the NHLPA has to file grievance, not the devils? i'm assuming Lou goes to the NHLPA?

Do you really think a GM has more power than the commish?

A) The hossa contract clearly circumvents the cap and was approved. Circumventing is circumventing.
B) Lou's status with the BOGs
C) If the league is citing max yearly salary vs cap hit (11.5 vs 6) then I can say Luongo (10 vs 5.3).
D) The league can't prove Kovalchuk wouldn't play until 44 just like they can't prove hossa won't play until 42. Guys are playing into their 40s now, and when they do, they make <1mill which is what Kovy would've made in the finals years of his.

how do you not see that kovalchuks contract is insane? yea hossas is to lower the cap although it is nothing compared to kovalchuk.

if the nhl is allowed to do this and i bet there is something that says they can then good for them. because then any team can say ok we will sign this player to a 20 year contract with a 3 mil cap hit.

Whats next a 50 year deal with the first 15 being 12 mill and the last 35 being league min for a cap hit of 3 mill.

Just because you think it's "insane" doesn't mean it doesn't follow the CBA....Which it does.

The last ~20 days have been so insane. I'll just be glad when it's all over, regardless of what happens.

Lou is no dumb ass, he probably figured this could happen and is implementing plan B as we type.

(whatever that may be)

Hear, Hear!

And I'm not 100% Kovy either. More like 88.7% haha If we don't get him, well, then we have more money to spend in the future and don't have to worry about him suffering a severe injury and being stuck with that cap hit.

Just to screw with the league, they should IMMEDIATELY sign and submit a 101million 16 yr deal

and the league has the right to review every contract. so they actually decide if it follows or not.
