We have needed defensive help and the top three threads are about Cousins. Nothing says fans like a QB controversy.

NO WAY QB is our first pick even if cousins isn't re-signed. qbs are going to be gone by pick #17
To be fair it's not like that's not the most important thing to figure out right now. Our up and down starter at the most important position in football is about to hit free agency. It's a much more important and interesting topic then which Dline man we should sign or draft.

Is there a controversy? Aside from a team making the Skins an outrageous which I guess won't be necessary as he under no contarct at present or soon to be. I can't really see Scotty Mac letting Cuz walk. Scotty Mac can hem and haw and talk that not wanting to put too much of finite funds into a single player. Or procastinate in hopes of some miracle or whatever falling into his lap. At this point though its gonna come down to whether Cuz buys Scotty Mac a nice dinner or not and how much vaseline Cuz lets Scotty use before, well, you know.
The Skins braintrust gambled and lost back when they franchised Cuz the first time. Though I don't blame them, It was or seemed to be the right move at the time.
I just wish all the BS, both the habitual and the newly forming, would stop. Namely...........
A) Claiming Cuz is an elite or top 5 QB.
B) The bending over backwards trying to defend/justify what was simply a bad game by Cuz. Going as far to blame other players/units or placing more blame on them than they don't deserve.
C) Claiming Cuz has made those around him better.
D) Shark's notion that Cuz is too good for us, the Skins fanbase and the Skins team. Which is the strangest one of all.
Has he made strides? Sure, w/o question. Do the Skins need improvements in other areas of the team? One could argue they need improvement in every other area of the team ona player by player basis with Trent being the most obvious exception followed by Scherff being an exception.
Far as the defensive improvements go. If Scotty Mac doesn't setriously updrade or at least try to upgrade at multiple positions on that side of the ballvia the dfraft as well as FA. Whatever mojo he had may officially be gone now.
Ah, a voice of reason. How refreshing in these difficult times.Where do some folks keep getting this BS that Cousins is going to leave the Redskins this offseason? This is 100% nonsense. The team has already stated that at worst they will tag him. A bad game or two is not going to change that. If the speculation is that Cousins will somehow sit out if he is tagged well good luck to him with that approach. That will mean losing a ton of money next season & most likely making significantly less with his next team.
Time for a reality check. The team & Cousins will work out a long term deal over the offseason. It may take a while & involve some tension and gamesmanship along the way, but I definitely see this being done. We are talking about the FO office here - not some emotionally charged fans or some screaming heads at ESPN. They know the pros and cons for Cousins as well as the fact that finding an equivalent replacement will be difficult if not impossible. Breath easy & let's just wait and see what transpires in the next few months.

I never seen where the team will definitely tag him at 24M. You do not know that for sure about a long term deal unless you see the offers that KC's camp is making. What if he wants more than Luck? What do you do? He is not going to accept anything less than 23M in my opinion on a long term deal. You cant just say SM will give him anything that is he asking for. If that was the case SM would of locked him up last year. I don't think SM is the guy who you can back into a corner and get anything you want from him.
BTW - stop getting so caught up in the per year numbers. That is the price for signing a decent - not necessarily elite - QB in the NFL at this time. It is simply a matter of being in the rt place at the rt time. It doesn't mean that Cousins (or Flacco or whoever) is better than Brady, Rodgers or Brees. It just means that his contract expired at a certain time & the timing was fortunate. Get over this already.
Fine but we still have to pay top dollar b/c the contract has expired. The other guys you mentioned have consistently won playoff games. This is the issue. Does the team feel KC is worth a long term deal?
Yes - they have to pay him top dollar - so what? It is the price of doing business. The only question now becomes do you want to go w/ the tag one more year or are you ready to commit to an extended contract. If they decide to go with neither then IMO you basically just extended your rebuild period by a few years. Your only real decent option at QB is then via the draft which is a crapshoot & likely will take several years to be successful (if at all).
Going w/ guys like McCoy & others similar to him will only get you so far. So answer this - if they let Cousins go - what would you do as a GM for the QB position for the next several years? I don't think that there is a good answer to this one.
I find all of this puzzling coming from you since you have basically been Cousins' biggest cheerleader for the last few years. You need to stick with your guys through good and bad times.
To me and I said only me, KC is not worth 22/24 million after watching the Giants game. There is a reason why we did not sign him last yr and it may be the reason why KC didn't say he wanted to be back after having a bad game Sunday. However I will leave all of this to Scot. He knows best and I will let it be. After all he has been in a similar situation before.
