Office work is one thing. I'm talking weddings, funerals...can't wear black jeans and black Reeboks and call it dressing up. Unfortunately, this tells you a bit about the crowd I mingle with.

For all of my life since I was a little kid, my dad had a German golfing buddy names Hans. Hans was cool. Hans had an accent so thick you couldn't even understand him half the time. Hans has been a family friend for over 30 years, gone on hundreds of golfing trips with my dad, been to our house for parties, made friends with everyone, everyone loves Hans. My youngest sister even named her cat Hans, after him.

So, last winter my dad calls Hans up at his workplace and asks for him...no Hans here. My dad is like wtf? My dad is sure Hans works there, gives her his full name "Hans Nickle"...she says "Nope. No Hans Nickle here. We have a Franz Nickle that works here, could that be him?"

Turns out that 30 years ago he tried and tried and correct everyone when they'd say Hans, and try to tell everyone no, it's Franz. But because his accent is so thick no one ever understood him so he gave up. So for 30 years, dude is just like fuck it, I guess I'm Hans.
