Jim Caldwell as their next HC.

Looks like a move made out of sheer panic.

It's the Trestman hire of 2014

Trestman was the guy the Bears wanted. Caldwell was not the guy the Lions wanted. A very quick hire made after being snubbed by Whisenhunt is proof. That reeks of panic, but you know that.

This may work out, I never said it wouldnt. However, "settling" on a HC is far from ideal- and thats what the Lions did. That said, its not close at all to being the same, but tell yourself whatever is necessary in order to feel better.

Um, no... Trestman had at least a winning ability at some level as head coach, outside of coaching Payton Manning, Caldwell has a losing record everywhere else he was head coach. Pretty sure I could have coached Payton Manning that year.

"Jim Caldwell is 24-8 when he has Peyton Manning, 28-77 (counting college coaching career) when he doesn't."

Hopefully Stafford ends up being the same result. Stafford and Manning have almost identical ratings through the first 4 years. Stafford certainly needs polishing to become a Manning like talent but it is possble based on what he did in the first 8 games this year.

If not hopefully both the Bears and Viking improve enough to put the Lions in the basement and bring about a quick firing in a year or two. Not gettting my hopes up. Both those teams have no defense and no sign of having one in the near future.

Firing your 10-6 HC and replacing him with a guy from another country is the very definition of panic.

Oh well, here's to fighting over 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in the North behind the Packers for the next few years. :suds:

Lions fans are funny. Bears Def fell off because of injuries. Health is all we need.

No it's the definition of a new GM wanting his own hand picked guy. Pure EGO.

No... actually it's not at all. The Bears had many other top head coaching candidates that wanted the job. After Emery and Cutler spent entire days meeting with McCoy and Trestman, and much deliberation. They chose Trestman. With plenty of others still on the table.

Totally different scenario.

I just don't see why the hire should bring many smiles to Lions fans.

1st year with the Colts: 14-2, SB loss. After inheriting Dungy's team.

2nd year: 10-6, one and done home playoff loss in the WC round to the Jets.

3rd year: 2-14, no Peyton and a disaster ensues.

They got noticeably progressively worse each year he was there following the Dungy era.

I definitely do not think the lions will lack discipline next year.

I think its the right hire. Obviously Wiz only wanted the money. He took more money with a lesser talanted team. Caldwel will do just fine.

that's a very interesting observation. Makes me think...you know what makes sense? This hire is somewhat of a reaction to the manic Schwartz style. They wanted the opposite. They got him.

I don't like Caldwell, but I have to give him that...he sure isn't Schwartz. Maybe he will be the right match for those players, who knows.

I think its also about control, and the Fords have proven to be a bit off at times. I think Wis went where he would also have the most upside, with less pressure. It wont take much in Tenn to show improvement, and they have some pieces.

Except there is no QB and that was his downfall in Arizona. I understand they may draft one but that is a crap shoot also. Chris Johnson may be used right by Wiz and that should help that team.

Their defense isnt bad, and aside from Indy, the division is weak, and this draft is QB heavy. I still think it boiled down to control, and lack there of in Detroit. I think Caldwell is doomed there.
