Whew!

I watch this free agency frenzy, hoping our team takes some of these guys that are available.....and then I look at some of the contracts being handed out and instantly become glad that the Lions are being a little more reserved.

A lot of those players will never work as far as their pay equaling their performance. Maybe the Lions don't have much of a choice considering at least 3 of their players will need new contracts soon.

That said, these are some of the guys I still like that are available:
Tramon Williams
Trent Richardson (LOL)
Vince Wilfork
Justin Blalock

Lions best bets are drafting well and spend minimally on free agents. There's a reason most guys are free agents, not all but most.

With the way the rookie comp is now, this statement is true universally. Any team overspending in FA these days needs to have their heads examined.

I'd rather eat a ketchup popsicle than see the Lions give any money to T-Rich

What about a one year incentive deal? $100k guaranteed signing bonus, $900k salary and another $1m in incentives? His agent has to be smart enough to go after short term deal. NOBODY is going to offer him shit on a multi year deal. I would role the dice on a one year with the upside he still might offer.

I wouldn't give him a nickel. Hell, I'd rather have your neighbor Dr. Ni-ppels play RB over TRich at this point.

If you said in the 2012 offseason that Trent Richardson will be a camp body in 5 years I along with most people would have told you that you're nuts. But Trent Richardson is a camp body and anything more than the vet minimum for him is a waste of money.

I agree. That's why I suggested is pretty darn close to the veteran minimum

Pretty close to the vet minimum isn't close enough for me. Give him the vet minimum with no incentives and no guaranteed money and I'd give him a shot.

If T-Rich wants to wear the Rory costume then he might have a place with the Lions. That's his best chance.

Seriously? If you were the Lions GM. You would give that guy 100k guaranteed? PLUS another 900k whether he does good or not?

Don't worry, he'd never see that money even if it was a wide open hole on an offensive line. Wait, what....?

T-Rich couldn't hit a wide open hole in a whore house with a fist full of 100's

It's $100k and $80k is the standard that pretty much EVERY one year vet contract gets. You are arguing about a $20k difference.

And the $900k isn't guaranteed unless he makes the team. His upside potential absolutely warrants a little extra on the salary side. He will get a team that probably pays him more.

Blalock left without accepting the Lions offer. Wilfork would never play here. The Lions will settle for whoever wants to play here it seems.
