Lions GM Bob Quinn says team is 'open for business' as they weigh trading down from No. 8 in NFL Draft

Detroit Lions GM Bob Quinn hints at trading down... again

“I always like draft picks,” Quinn said. “So if we can move back a little bit, a couple spots, and pick up another pick, the depth in this draft is really—from the late first to the third—there’s a lot of really good players in there. So, if I could ever move back a few spots, get a really good player in the first round and add another pick, I think that’s something that’d be great.”

“I’m always in the business of getting more draft picks,” Quinn revealed during an April pre-draft press conference in 2018. “I think that’s just good for business. The more you get, the more you’re going to hit on, so if we can acquire more picks, that would be something I’d look forward to.”

And just a few minutes prior in the interview with Rapoport, Quinn openly admitted that they put out misinformation to throw off teams of their intentions. When Rapoport joked about trying to chase down information on the 30 official visits the Lions will have for draft prospects, this is how Quinn answered.

as a move TE, I'd lean more towards Oliver over anyone else when also considering it's a late day 2 option. Imo, He has more upside than Sternberger and is further along in route running than Knox, Sample, Moreau. jmo.

Sample and Moreau are much better blockers but don't offer much in athleticism in routes.

Texas A&M DT Kingsley Keke makes an official visit with the Lions

Kentucky's Josh Allen will meet with Lions on pre-draft visit

Lions draft prospect of the day: Central Michigan CB Sean Bunting

Bob Quinn on hand for Arizona State Pro Day

Lions will host Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry for a private visit

Lions draft prospect of the day: NC State WR Kelvin Harmon

Florida Gators pro day offers two potential 2nd round picks for the Lions

All 32 teams were represented in Gainesville for the Florida Gators pro day. There were two prospects on display who merit particular interest for the Detroit Lions, who dispatched a coach and a scout to the event.

Gardner-Johnson continued to build on his strong offseason with an impressive workout with the explosion drills (broad jump, vertical jump). He’s a hybrid CB/safety and the Lions did scout him extensively during the Gators’ season. Gardner-Johnson scored his second pick-6 of the season in Florida’s bowl romp over Michigan.

BB_72; I believe BQ/MP are seriously considering drafting another Safety this year as they've had private visits with Abrams, Rapp and have scouted extensively Gardner-Johnson and Adderley.

Darrin Hall Posts Top Time at Pitt Pro Day

Solak: Running Back Positional Rankings | The Draft Network

9. Darrin Hall
RB, Pittsburgh

_pittsburgh.jpg

Who? Darrin Hall, that's who!

What a pleasant surprise, finding Darrin Hall's tape during some of my final film reviews. This is a large, explosive runner who excels at making one cut, getting north, and making a player miss in the second level. He isn't super fluid, but he has enough flexibility to carry velocity through angles and challenge safeties as they fill downhill.

Hall was always a timeshare player in Pitt's backfield and accordingly didn't carve out a big role as a pass-catcher or pass-blocker, which makes him a tricky player to draft late. But on inside zone or power heavy teams, especially who like to run from under center, Hall's ability to get vertical and make the first man miss will prove valuable in creating explosive plays on the ground.

BB_72; I've watched minimal in highlights so far but I'm going back to pull some full games off you-tube and preferably against NC-St (2017) and Clemson (2018) and PSU (2017/2018). I would think he's more in line of an UDFA but we'll see.

2019 NFL Draft: Finding best team fits for five top RB prospects

4) Rodney Anderson: Detroit Lions
Coach Matt Patricia has indicated he doesn't want to put too great a workload on Kerryon Johnson, who is coming off a knee injury that prematurely ended an otherwise impressive rookie season. Detroit added C.J. Anderson on a one-year deal as veteran help, but it would still make sense for the Lions to turn to the draft for depth, depending on how they feel about Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner. Anderson is probably as skilled as Josh Jacobs -- the only reason he'd still be available later in the draft is his injury history, which includes a knee injury that ended his 2018 season in September. He's a very good back, a tough runner who can run it inside or bounce it outside and make an impact as a pass-catcher in the Lions' scheme. The Oklahoma product should be available in the fifth or sixth round, and he could be a steal for Detroit, if he stays healthy enough to let his talent shine.

Its almost as if I wrote this myself

Lions will host Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry for a private visit

BB_72; The more I watch Harry the more I become enamored with his skill-set. @Stomp I owe it to you for going back and taking a 2nd look. I highly doubt if Harry makes it to #43 but if he does, you run to the podium.

On the other hand should the Raiders get silly and want an edge rusher after drafting White at #4 (hypothetically) and decide to pull the trigger by trading #24 and #27 for the Lions #8, I would take Harry with one of those picks (RG Lidstrom would be used on the other pick).

I have sen a lot of mocks with him in the 40s. I like your scenario as well. That would work well. Other than Q Williams being available at 8. He is the best player in the draft IMO.

meh. He probably ends up being another Dam McGuire, Ryan Mallett or Brock Osweiler.

I'd take Eric Dungy (Syracuse University we need at least one from that school) as an UDFA before wasting a draft pick on another QB but that's just my take.

Yeah but even if he isn't great. Quinn and the Pats have a history of drafting QB's and making them look good in the pre-season and flipping them for high draft picks in the future.

Yeah. I think every GM says this before a draft.
GM speak means "I'll trade down if you give me enough picks".

Truth is.
There are only 3 blue chip prospects in this draft. Bosa, Allen and Williams. Pundits are all over the place on the all the prospects after that. Meaning that 4-20 are all as much of a crap shoot as the others.

BQ is still waiting on those flipping for high draft picks for former wasted 6th round QB picks in Rudock and Kaaya.

16 teams traded a draft pick in the 1st round in each of the last two years.

all prospects are a crap shoot. imo. even the blue chip prospects can be for various reasons (injuries, wrong system, wrong scheme. etc.).

I'll agree with the 3 blue chip prospects.

^^^^

I wouldn't mind drafting Sample as he'd be a great addition for run/pass blocking with a little sprinkle of release downfield. I don't see the so-called athletic traits some make claims he has. He'd have to be 5th round for me outside of picking up a late 4th round somewhere earlier from a previous trade down.
