tbh, I think the Lions made it to the playoffs once in the 70's. something like a 30 loss to the Cowboys. That's back when there was 14 game schedule. They just seemed to be more competitive. probably horrible memory of mine.

This guy is tops on my board if he is available in the 3rd round. Defense in the first 2 rounds.

personally I don't want to see a player drafted for the offense until round 5 unless a damn good RG or a combo C/RG is too good of value to pass up in the 3rd or 4th round.

Greedy gives me a "Justin Gilbert" type of vibe. I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now since he comes from LSU and they tend to fair well in the NFL.

nah. He's not in that league, imo. Maybe some maturation issues and wanting to take care of his family financially may become an issue that might/could hinder his play.

hell, I'm so old and forgetful I can't remember all of the more notable players. CBS broadcaster Gary Danielson was a QB for the Lions mid to late 70's and maybe early 80's.

LB Devin White, LSU: The Lions have filled a position of need in the first round in all three of their drafts under GM Bob Quinn, so this is a bit out of character, and maybe it changes the next time I do a mock. But White is one of the top five players in the draft, at a position Matt Patricia reveres. He’s absolutely worthy of the No. 8 pick.

CB Joejuan Williams, Vanderbilt: Almost everyone projects the Patriots to take a quarterback here, but I’m not sure Daniel Jones or Drew Lock are worth a first-round pick.

BB_72; that's quite a bit extreme for where his skill set, mechanics and technique currently stand, imo, but who knows. Hoodie gambled on Tavon Wilson as a late 2nd round pick when most public draft boards had Wilson 140th ranked player or lower.

3) Darrell Henderson, draft prospect: At this point in the pre-draft process, Jacobs is the only back consistently receiving first-round buzz. So, what does the RB prospect landscape look like after him? Well, the talent doesn't drop off, but the groupthink does. A number of names could fill this slot, but I'm going with the home-run hitter out of Memphis. This past season, Henderson gained 1,321 yards after first contact. Yup, according to Pro Football Focus, this 5-9, 200-pounder averaged a mind-bending 6.17 yards per attempt after contact. That's how you average 8.9 yards per carry ... for the second consecutive season! I know, I know: Some will question the level of competition Henderson faced in the American Athletic Conference. But he displays the kind of contact balance and lateral quickness that'll play on any field. His pass-catching role was limited at Memphis, and pass protection is an area where improvement's needed. But in an NFL that's more fond of committee backfields than ever before, Henderson's explosive running skills have Day 2 draft steal written all over them.

2019 NFL Scouting Combine: One player for each team to watch

DETROIT LIONS: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida. We all know the Lions will be eyeing pass rush as their top priority, but with Glover Quin at age 33, Detroit could take a closer look at Gardner-Johnson. He's a rangy free safety with good size and the ability to handle man-coverage duties. The Lions could hone in on a potential Day 1 starter as a Day 2 pick.

Kuechley was a once in a blue moon player. Same level as Urlacher and Ray Lewis type of prospect. Elite instincts.

I am not ready to crown Roquan Smith anything. I am really hoping he sucks balls in the future cause he is on the Bears

CBS Sports draft writer Chris Trapasso lists Washington LB Ben Burr-Kirven as the top linebacker in the 2019 draft class.

As Trapasso notes, this is far from the consensus ranking. In fact, we haven't seen Burr-Kirven listed at all among the top players at his position. That doesn't make Trapasso right or wrong, it's just worth pointing out. One of the reasons Burr-Kirven hasn't ranked highly is because he's listed at 6-foot, 220-pounds, but Trapasso believes that size helps him make plays on the football, and with 176 tackles for one of the best defenses in college football, he just might be right. "The combine will either cement his status as my favorite linebacker prospect in this class or push him down a bit," writes Trapasso. "Either way, he's a twitchy, refined second-level defender ideally suited for the modern-day NFL."

I could deal with that 4th round or preferably even a round or two later. LJ Scott would be a great choice, imo.

If BQ drafts a RB this year before the 5th round there had better be such a huge margin of value with that RB over other positions that it warrants the pick. imo.

My issue on drafting someone to come off the bench, or share duties is that there are legit holes to fill in the starting lineup.

It'd have to be the Blount of this years draft(who didn't get drafted).

also to note is that Scott has some proven reps as a quality pass-pro RB. Systems like MSU, LSU, Bammer, U of M, Georgia, just name a few, usually have a RB that has a leg up in pass-pro (not always but usually)

I'd advise hiring him a driver though.


He's NFL ready if healthy imo.

The Draft Network's Joe Marino hears that Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf could run a sub-4.40s 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Metcalf (6'4/230) is going to be one of the players to watch in Indianapolis, starting from his measurement onward. He made waves on the internet -- admittedly, a pretty easy thing to do -- after a photo circulated showing the yoked-out wideout sans shirt, but Marino is not worried about any extra bulk slowing him down. Nor is ESPN's Todd McShay, who himself has heard that Metcalf will run the dash in the low 4.4s range. Metcalf is a probable Day 1 selection and could potentially challenge for a top-10 selection come April. It should be noted that in addition to measurements and testing, the combine will be key for Metcalf when it comes to medical checks. He missed the back half of the 2018 season due to a neck injury.

Don't come back to me with but D.K. Metcalf isn't a tiny little dude.

Besides, Metcalf is going to be the bait on the line to get the Browns to trade up from their #17 and their 2019 2nd round pick and their 2020 4th round pick. The browns will want to beat out the Bills for Metcalf. Book it.

Why I have Detroit Lions picking LSU's Devin White in Mock Draft 1.0

White is a playmaker, and that’s something Lions general manager Bob Quinn has made clear he wants to add to his defense this offseason. He forced three fumbles for the Tigers last year, had 12 tackles for loss among 123 stops and broke up six passes.

That’s not quite like adding a double-digit sack defensive end to the roster, but I don’t think that player will be available at No. 8.

White wasn’t the only player I considered for the Lions. I had Michigan’s Rashan Gary going one spot earlier, No. 7 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and I might have taken him at No. 8 had he still been on the board because of the Lions’ need at defensive end.


White’s LSU teammate, cornerback Greedy Williams, also was in the mix, but I couldn’t pull the trigger on him at the end of the day because I can’t see Lions coach Matt Patricia falling in love with a player who has tackling issues.

Beyond his talent, he plays a position that Patricia places a high value on and I believe the Lions can pair him with Davis and have a dominant stack linebacker duo down the road. That would leave the underappreciated Christian Jones out of a starting spot this fall, and that’s un-Lions-like — Quinn has used all three of his previous first-round picks to fill a position of need — but White is too good a player to pass up.

By the time the pre-draft process is done, White will roundly be considered one of the five or six best players in the draft, sort of like Roquan Smith last year.

The Chicago Bears took Smith eighth overall, and I can see the Lions doing the same with White come April.
