100. Joe Dineen Jr., Linebacker, Kansas

100-Dineen-768x432.jpeg

Arguably the nation’s best run stopper over the past two years, Dineen once again led the Power-5 linebackers in run stops with 70. In total, he finished third out of all the nation’s linebackers with a run-stop percentage of 14.5%.

not sure about Dineen if he has what it takes for NFL for another who's always at right place at the right time. NFL pace and speed may be too much but should start out as a quality ST player first. Late round 6-UDFA, imo.

The one area that bothers me most about White, which reminds me of J. Davis, are those missed tackles. White is better than what Davis was in CFB but he isn't anywhere near as good as Roquan Smith or Rashaan Evans or former Tiger LB Deion Jones in coverage.

He might actually slip to the 15-25 range. I could be wrong but just a feeling if he has quite a few missed tackles. Scouts usually don't miss that. In his bowl game in the 4th quarter, he missed a tackle and was absolutely gassed.

4. Josh Allen, Edge Defender, Kentucky

4-Josh-Allen-768x432.jpeg

This one is easy: Josh Allen got home with a pressure on 23.4% of his pass-rush snaps this season – the best mark of any defensive player who rushed the passer at least 200 times this year. He tallied 57 pressures on just 244 pass-rushes and his outstanding pass-rush productivity of 30.3 was 3.5 percentage points higher than the next closest player. He was far and away the best pass-rusher this season regardless of position but that’s not even the half of what he did well. He dropped back in coverage with great success (81.9 grade) and made 51 total defensive stops and missed just four tackles out of 69 attempts. All in all, Allen’s performance not only cemented him as the best edge defender this season, but it also vaulted him up draft boards and should make him more than a recognizable figure come April.

Really hoping this dude falls to us if he is 260+ as you say. Hoping the some teams go a little crazy and draft the 2 QB's and maybe an offensive tackle in front of us and we might have a shot at him.

7. Byron Murphy, Cornerback, Washington

7-Murphy-768x432.jpeg

It’s been said before but can be said again, Murphy’s prowess in coverage can be summed up with one performance this season, and that came against Utah in the Pac-12 Championship. From his cornerback position, Murphy was the only player to see the end zone as he recorded a Pick-6 for the game’s only touchdown in the Huskies win over the Utes. With that in mind, Murphy was more than just a one-game sensation as he was targeted 62 times, yet allowed just 78 total yards after the catch in his coverage. He broke up 13 passes to go along with his four interceptions and saw a 54.5 passer rating when targeted.

Wouldn't mind one of these elite corners in the draft at #8 either.
Usually Washington corners fare well in the NFL.

LOL

all the quality DE's gone in 1st round and again in 2nd round but I had a chance at BC DE Zach Allen at 41 and took Fant thinking I'd get Allen at 20 but he was gone. traded down again to get Ferguson

I'll defer to @gandydancer to figure this guys pros/cons. He played at LG for NC-State.

Haven’t watched his film yet. Been watching Mitch Hyatt LT from Clemson and still debating myself over if he can be a solid RT. IMO he seems like a zone scheme guy. Helluva down blocker. His pass pro was awesome against pro talent in big games. Stonewalled Bosa in 16’ ( as true FR)and pretty much all the Bama pros during the 4 contests.

Burr-Kirven is considered small but so was David, Shazier.

He reads his keys correctly and is consistently around the ball. speed to sift through the trash and solid coverage instincts.

Interesting they have BBK ahead of Devin White. First time I have seen that

Love is my 2nd rated CB even above Greedy. If he's there in the 2nd round at #43, I hope they draft him.

I am really getting attached to Byron Murphy these days. Not so high on Love. Like you said Rd 2

Kylar Murray coming out helps this immensely.

As fun as it is to watch guys like White and Greedy because they make big splash plays, I dont think that is what we need. I am pretty sure we go either Allen or 1 of the meat and potatos CBs (Murphy, Baker). Those are the 2 biggest needs. It could come down to FA signings determining that. There is always a chance we fill both in FA and just select BPA.

I'm not sure of total breakdown of PFF grades here between the two. I would guess BBK is higher rated in coverage than White and less missed tackles.

White is a thumper with speed to cover sideline to sideline and is better at shedding/muscling through blocks whereas BBK is more elusive in evading blocks to get to coverage, imo.

Lions placing premium on adding playmakers this offseason

When asked what the Lions need to do in order to reach the next level, Quinn offered a short list, specifically headlined by one item.

“I think we need more playmakers on both sides of the ball," Quinn said. "I think big picture, we need more playmakers. We need guys to make big plays."

White could still constitute as a play maker, imo.

Now having Snacks, who makes A'Shawn and Hand and RJF better, opens up lanes for a tandem LB of Davis and White to run stop, coverage, blitz, PD, Int's., etc

Lions placing premium on adding playmakers this offseason

BB_72; also in here describes what constitutes playmakers

What defines a playmaker is a subjective measure. On offense, STATS LLC. defines a big play as a pass that gains 25 or more yards and a run that gains 10 or more.

Using these measures, the Lions combined to have 66 big plays in 2018, tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for 27th in the league. Building blocks pieces Kerryon Johnson and Kenny Golladay paced the way for Lions.

Johnson, who appeared in just 10 games as a rookie, was responsible for 17 of the team's 10-plus yard rushes. The team's three other running backs — LeGarrett Blount, Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner — combined for 19, despite more than double the carries.

Golladay had nine receptions of 25 yards or more, tied for 19th in the NFL. Golden Tate was second on the team with six, and he only played seven games before he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Marvin Jones, who had 15 big-play catches a year ago, was limited to five during his injury-shortened 2018 campaign.

It's worth noting, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, who is reportedly on the trading block, has averaged 15 receptions of 25 or more yards the past two seasons, finishing in the top-five each year.

Lions placing premium on adding playmakers this offseason

BB_72; defensively speaking in terms of playmakers

Defensively, big plays could probably best be summed up as tackles for loss, sacks and turnovers.

The Lions didn't have a single, dominant pass-rusher last season. Instead, the team finished in the middle of the pack in sacks by spreading the wealth. Fourteen different players recording at least one, lead by Romeo Okwara's 7.5.

With tackles for loss, only linebacker Jarrad Davis finished in the top-50. His 10 were tied for 49th.

Obviously add in the net loss from this year in team total Int's compared to last years team totals.

Turnovers were also a big issue for the Lions last season. The team's 14 takeaways ranked 31st, ahead of only the Arizona Cardinals.

During his season-ending news conference a week ago, coach Matt Patricia listed turnover margin as the top area the team needed to improve.

Cornerback Darius Slay and safety Quandre Diggs led the Lions with three interceptions apiece, accounting for 86 percent of the team's total.

Quinn's stated need for more playmaking puts a spotlight on starting cornerback Nevin Lawson, who has broken up just nine passes the past two seasons and remains without an interception for his career. In fact, no defensive back in NFL history has started as many games as Lawson (54) without a pick.

FA is a long ways away. nearly 8 weeks. time will tell and how the draft unfolds.

a friend once told me, "Let the draft come to you." (another words don't go chasing)

With Murray entering the draft that leaves one more non Qb for us. At 8 we should have no problem geting one of the prime playmakers so I am not too worried
