I just do not think he is the championship caliber type of coach with that type of personality that I think is necessary. He seems like a decent person, so I am hoping good things for him. He just comes across as a type of Marty ball type of coach who will make the exact wrong decision at the wrong time every time. He will go to percentage rather than gut.

To me he just does not garner the respect of the players like a Parcells etc did.

Is it essential for a coach to have that quality? I think so. I cannot think of many coaches that did win it that did not have that quality.

Respect may be the wrong word. I think the players really LIKE Fox. I think they really want to do well for him. My point is Fox tends to be a "by the book" type of coach who uses percentages as a type of "safety net" at the crucial times. That is his track record.

I also do not like that stat that I mentioned the other day in regards to QBs that have passed for 4000 yards AND 30 TDs in the same season. It is fun to watch, and is great to see. However, even in this era of the 2000s. they tend to not win it all when they are putting up those numbers.

Anway, here is to a new season.

Have to agree with you Bb. Although I like Fox, something seems to be missing. Like a Fire or Flame or Toughness or "Killer" instinct. I don`t know, can`t quite put finger on it. But, as long as he takes team to SB, I`ll have no complaints:).

I like Fox and think he's a great coach. Way underrated, in fact. Rather than making players fit his scheme, he coaches to his player's strength. Look at 2011; the Broncos reworked their offense to fit Tebow and got a playoff win out of the deal. Then last year, they had a completely reworked offense again, with Peyton Manning who was still working his way back from injury, and the offense was arguably the best in Broncos history while the defense was 2nd in yards allowed.

Does he always make the right decision? Of course not, but I think he does more often than not. Looking back at the playoff game, I still think running the ball on that 3rd down was the right call, although they probably should have come out a little more spread out and given Manning the option to audible to pass. But really, without a huge defensive blunder by two guys (Tony Carter, who didn't jam Jones at the line or follow him all the way downfield and Rahim Moore, who monumentally screwed up the play) and a perfect pass from Flacco, the Broncos win. That's probably a win in that situation 99 times out of 100, that just happened to be the 1. What you have to remember is that Denver had a great defense last season, and the Broncos had won 13 games by trusting that defense to make stops late. I don't see any reason to change it up there.

The mistake was taking a knee at the end of regulation and not going for the win. At least give your team a shot to try a long field goal. That's what I would do over if I could.

Let's not forget, Fox has coached a team to within 3 points of a Super Bowl win with Jake Delhomme behind center. That's pretty impressive. He may not be flashy or sexy, but there's only a couple of coaches I'd take over him right now.

I tend to agree with baller. I like John Fox, and I still have hope that he can coach us to the promise land, but I have had my doubts for the same reasons mentioned. The Martyball analogy, unfortunately, seems to be right on.

I'm not too worried about his coaching as it pertains to the regular season, but once we get to the playoffs, that's where the difference-makers come in and lead the team to the next level. I hope he can do that. I'm just not convinced that he is on par with the top coaches in the NFL. There is a good chance that we will be outcoached in every playoff game. Hopefully, he changes my mind along the way.

I think Fox and crew won that game last night at halftime.

I know a couple of Ravens were hurt but look at how that third quarter went.

Broncos TD.

Ravens 3 and out.

Broncos TD.

Ravens 3 and out.

Broncos TD.

Ravens 3 and out.

That happened in that locker room at halftime.

Even crazier is after the first quarter Manning only had like 56 yards passing and no TD's. He blew up the stat sheet in 3 quarters. Epic performance by one of the greatest ever.

No kidding.

Fantasy players with Manning can bench the rest of their team and still win this week....

Yeah, that is true. I am playing AGAINST Manning this week too.

He scored 66 points in our league.

I have Manning, DT and Julius Thomas starting in one of my leagues. Just with those 3 guys alone I'm up 275-10 after last night. Dude I'm up against got 10 points from Montee Ball.

I actually have Julius as my starting TE in all 3 of my leagues. I just knew this would be his breakout year, and so far he's proved me right......only one game though, I know.

What specifically can you point to that Fox has done to make you say that?

He is old school and conservative, after Shanahan's demise here and McDaniels disaster, conservative and stable is what we need.

This team is still developing an identity, we are barely in the 3rd year of Elway and Fox building this team and look at the results?

Tell me specifically what he is not doing and what he has done to deserve any real criticism?

This, "He's a nice guy but I can't really put my finger on it, the players like him but don't really respect him" is bullshit. You have no idea how the players feel about Fox.

And The Marty Ball analogy is weak.

Successful coaches DO play the percentages. They make smart decisions. The only play I second guessed him was taking a knee and going to OT. Take a shot down-field, for crying out loud, try to hit someone on the sideline and kick a FG, let Prater try and redeem himself.

Being a risk taker will get you fired if you do not have success doing it. And few do.

I disagree with the people being negative about Fox. He has been a very good half time adjustment coach. Players love to play for him. I had the same discussion last night with a guy that sits next to me. Not to put words in anyone's mouth but I think a lot of the anti Fox sentiment comes from last years kneel down. Manning's arm was weak in the cold and I believe his longest pass attempt in that game was 24 yards and only attempted a few throws over 20 yards. Baltimore figured it out and was squatting on the routs. Manning has a ton of influence and I didn't see him argue with the call during or since.

I'm glad we have Fox.

I love Fox. He's the kind of coach that players seem to want to play for. Part of our rise from the McDaniels ashes was that players want to be part of this team because of the coach. Throw in a committed-to-winning owner, John Elway and of course Peyton Manning and this is the kind of team that the great players want to be a part of. I think because Fox is humble and won't disclose much, people may underestimate how much of that he creates.

BTW Manning said a big reason why he chose Denver was Fox. I think that's a bit important....

I like Fox but I can see comments about marty-ball. Fox tends to go a little more conservative than I would like and I wonder if that came from having mediocre QBs in the past. I think this year we see a little more aggressive moves being made. Last night we started running the game out and went 3 and out. The next possession we went back to passing so we could seal the game away.

I think he is finally getting comfortable in letting his DC and OC make some riskier decisions and is sticking to managing the general game flow.

I'm not trying to be argumentative fellas but I don't get the "Fox is conservative argument". Last night the Broncos threw the ball 42 times and ran it only 23. Last season they 7th in the league in pass attempts. I think Fox does an excellent job adjusting to the talent he has. Look no further than the former NFL QB #15....

I am good with John Fox.

Beats having McDaniels by a LOOOOOONG shot.......

He might be conservative at times, but I think that's just his defensive roots.

Adam Gase might change that for him. lol
