hope for the best: 3-0
expect the worst: 1-2
realistic: 2-1
we are back home, winning 2 in a row, scoring runs and weathered the post break road trip with a 3-3 record.
we have the best road record and our pitchers pitch better in our pitcher friendly park so they will get a boost. hurdle manages our pen better at home a well.
we do have a great schedule and hopefully sellers get worse.
with our pre 2012 luck, the sellers will bring up these no name pitchers that no one knows anything about their stuff and they baffle us with 13 K's per game.
sorry, that was the old pirate fan mentality. i am back on track.
we are studly and ready to go on a surge over the next 20 games. 13-7!
Very nice win in the first game of the Marlins' series. And I agree completely with sychmd. Pitching, especially starting pitching, is the name of the game. We need to patch those cracks which have appeared in the rotation.
With the offense now picking up the pitching staff, this team is starting to make me a believer regarding their staying power..... that is, I don't expect a repeat of 2011's utter collapse. However, at this point, I'm focused on the rapidly-approaching 100-game mark, and hoping they can continue performing beyond that point. That was when the wheels fell off last year. They were 53-47 (.530) for the first 100 games..... but only 19-43 (.306) for the last 62.
Let's hear it for Jeff Karstens! He came back from the DL just in time to pick up the starting rotation.
Now hoping that Bedard and McDonald can get back on track against the Cubs. Before losing their last two games against St. Louis, Chicago had been 14-5 in their previous 19.
