Ha, 4 teams for 1 billion that is a bargain. The Cubs cost 1 billion and they haven't won since the roosevelt administration

The way it breaks down, the Leafs, Marlies, and FC are worth a combined 2 billion, and MLSE are throwing in a billion for someone to take the Raptors off their hands.

well, what with the exchange rate and all.

Maybe if Rogers owns the Leafs, we will finally get a break on Saturday nights CBC programming.

That would be like ESPN owning the Yankees.

pretty much

but the additional shot up our asses is that Rogers is using the billions they rake for overcharging us canadians on cell phone use to fund this Toronto sports empire purchase

yeah, that wouldn't surprise me.

Once the CBC was outbid for the song that was such a part of our culture (and the network's identity), I think the writing was on the wall that HNIC itself was no longer sacred.

Hasnt Scott Moore (executive director of CBC Sports) move to Rogers recently?

I'm not sure how much revenue HNIC generates for CBC, but I have to believe it is their biggest money maker. I don't know how many 'Road to Avonlea' and 'Red Green' re-runs a guy can watch before he blows his brains out.

no question the ad revenue generated by HNIC is a cash cow

i think its just a question how far the CBC can go with the money budgeted by the federal govt ... whereas rogers can blow their brains out with an huge offer since they can leverage the broadcasting contract with cross promotion throughout their media empire
