Low cost food and drinks and even unlimited refills on for the $2 soda

Falcons announce fan-friendly concessions pricing for new stadium

Here's a novel idea: an NFL team that actually cares about fans who aren't sitting in private boxes.

On Monday, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank and team president Rich McKay announced a revolutionary concept: "fan first" pricing on popular concession items at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is set to open before the 2017 NFL season.

How friendly will the prices be? Judge for yourself:

  • $2 – Non-alcoholic beverage products with unlimited free refills
  • $2 – Dasani bottled water; hot dogs; pretzels; popcorn
  • $3 – Peanuts; pizza; nachos; waffle fries
  • $5 – 12 oz. domestic beer
Blank stressed that the prices are not short-term, a gimmick to celebrate the opening of the stadium; they are part of a "core philosophy" to say thank you to fans for their loyalty.

The pricing will be in place for all events at the stadium: Falcons games, Atlanta United FC games and major events already scheduled, like the Peach Bowl, SEC Championship game and NCAA Final Four (scheduled for 2020).

And when it comes to the soda refills, there will be self-serve stations away from the concession stands, so fans can help themselves.

Quite the gesture, in our opinion.

Sounds great, hope it works and others follow. The pessimistic side of me says the prices will go up closer to the rest of the league. 2 dollar cokes unlimited refills, that's cheap

5 dollars for a beer, not so fast, Falcons...

2 dollars for soda? With refills? Hmmm, doable.

$5 beers won't last long. There will be too many fights, drunk and disordely, offended families....
Not a slam on Falcon fans it would happen in every stadium. Atlanta may be one of the few stadiums this wouldn't be a huge issue in:suds:

I doubt it will turn into the nickel beer night fiasco. Not to mention $5 beers are still pretty overpriced when even the nicest stuff is under $2/beer to tailgate with.

IIRC the city negotiated it when Blank had his hand out for public money.

Could be but doubtful...if I remember this correctly...concession/parking revenue goes mostly to the GWCCA....the city is forking over about $350 mil from the hotel/tourist tax revenue so I assume they had some input, but this is mostly a huge gift to the city from Blank, much like Bernie Marcus did with the Aquarium.

Blank is basically taking a cue from another world class event...The Masters.

They don't rake you over the coals for food, etc at Augusta National...I spent a day at the Masters twice and spent less the $30 on food/drink...souvenirs are reasonable, but most people have such a long list...this is where they get you!

I went to the PGA...spent over $50 just on food/drink for me alone.

Some good prices there for sure. I've been to CFL games in Edmonton. It's 6.75 for a beer there.

Cheap food & bev, but i'm guessing tickets/parking will be incredibly expensive. Your going to end up paying one way or another.
