Lawrence Taylor Jr. pleads guilty in molestation, statutory r*pe
May 4, 2015 – Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announces that Lawrence Julius Taylor will serve 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to child molestation and statutory r*pe.
This afternoon, Mr. Taylor acknowledged the state had enough evidence to convict him of the statutory r*pe of his girlfriend’s teenage daughter, which occurred four or five times between 2012 and 2013.
The child molestation charge stems from unwanted sexual contact Mr. Taylor had with another juvenile, a 13-year-old girl, on July 6, 2013. That girl immediately reported what happened, and Mr. Taylor was arrested the following day.
“Resolving this case with a guilty plea provides the victims with finality and prevents them from having to relive their experiences on the witness stand,” ADA Hannah Palmquist said. “Justice was done in this case, not only because the Defendant will serve 10 years in prison, but because the victims will not have to be put through the emotional toll of a trial.”
After accepting the plea, Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary E. Staley sentenced Mr. Taylor to 30 years, with 10 years to be served in prison followed by 20 years on probation.
The plea came on the day Mr. Taylor’s trial was scheduled to begin. On Friday, he was returned to custody at the Cobb County Jail after Judge Staley determined he had violated his bond conditions and she revoked his bond.
Atlanta attorneys Chinwe Foster and Ellaretha Jones represented Mr. Taylor.
The case was investigated by Powder Springs Police.
