What a shame. It was heartbreaking seeing him carted off the field.

Don't remember where I read it, but it said something about a torn acl, mcl, lcl, and pcl? as well as a broken femur and patella.
I feel bad for him. I've torn my acl plus cartilidge before so I know it can hurt like hell. It's gotta hurt even more so for him though with as nasty as that hit looked.

Like I said. Unlikely that he tore both his ACL and PCL.

It could be true but just looking at the video it looks to low to be his femur.

At Spurriers' Sunday teleconference, he said that Marcus dislocated his kneecap.

Confirmed: Lattimore's knee popped out of place but it got back into place quickly. He has a knee dislocation. "It's going to take a while obviously to recover and rehab this." "We're optimistic that his football days are still ahead of him," Spurrier said. He's optimistic about his recovery. "We all hope and pray he'll be back." Says there's a history of guys coming back from this type of injury.

Spurrier deferring questions on Sunday call to doctor and team trainer. Said team doc said could be a chance ML won't be back until 2014. Steve Spurrier: "Dr. Guy (team doctor) says there could be a chance but there could be a chance it could be two years down the road."

He hasn't heard about any ligament tears or of broken femur with Marcus Lattimore.

It remains to be seen if Lattimore could play in 2013. Mentions a medical redshirt as an option. Spurrier says Lattimore is doing better than he was yesterday.

Marcus will make his own decision on whether he comes back or not per Spurrier.

The conference isn't over yet, so there's no transcript, but others are reporting Spurrier said the same. No telling about the ligaments or cartilage.

Lattimore wouldn't have to take a medical redshirt unless he is planning on missing 2013 & 2014. He'll have five years of eligibility no matter what.

God that is crazy-good news to hear, the way that looked. I was feeling pretty horrible for the kid figuring that he wasn't going to be playing again.

 good call. He still may use a medical redshirt in case he isn't ready after a year. I'm not sure if it makes a difference though.

A knee dislocation is really serious - there's basically no way for it to occur without tearing the ACL and PCL. So it's still not a given Marcus will play again.

More from the Spurrier transcript (he's a bit evasive):

One of the national reporters said that the injury is similar to Willis McGahee’s with everything in the knee torn up. Is that accurate?

No, I didn’t get that kind of report. I’ve heard Willis McGahee’s name. He was a guy with a severe injury who came back. Like I said, there’s many guys who come back from this type of injury and play for a long time. That’s about all I know right there.

To be clear, the report was all four ligaments were torn and the femur is broken. Can you tell us if that is accurate?

No, I can’t tell you all that. I have not heard that. You’ll have to check with Dr. Guy and our trainer.

The Doctor mentioned is supposed to release something later in the day (at least that's what I read on twitter).

I agree, the knee dislocation is horrible. You want to dislocate anything but the knee.

I really feel bad for the guy. It looked horrible on tv. I'm wishing him a speedy recovery. Hate to stuff like this happen.

I think this is all we're going to get, detail-wise - an update from the USC athletics site:

University of South Carolina junior running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a significant impact to the front of his right knee during the Tennessee game on Saturday. The ensuing hyperextension of the knee resulted in injury to several ligaments. There were no fractures or additional injuries, according to team physician Dr. Jeffery Guy. Lattimore's surgically repaired left knee was uninjured during the play.

Lattimore is resting comfortably and will continue to be evaluated over the course of the week. Marcus has already begun the process of prehabilitation prior to surgery and to his eventual return to football.

What's the point in being so secretive on details? I don't see how it serves any positive purpose.

That's his family's decision - it was the same way last time around. That's why I think there won't be many more details forthcoming.

The fact that there is no fracture is GREAT news.....

My cousin was playing QB and tore all 4 ligaments on one play..........luckily the procedure to fix these torn ligaments is far easier and more effective than it once was.......

My cousin recovered 100% from the injury, and he once again participates fully is sports.
