This is what you get when you hire Larry Brown

Larry Brown cheating with academic fraud and unethical conduct? Imagine that.

How is this guy still a coach? Someone please explain that to me.

I suspect it has something to do with a risk versus reward tradeoff. For what it's worth, even in light of Brown's most recent (alleged) transgressions, I still find it far easier to understand SMU's gamble on Brown than I do Southwestern Christian hiring Dave  Bliss.

Larry Brown looked ancient as he read that statement.

LOL He is ancient! Or at least close to ancient.

He is an interesting figure. Have to admit that I like him -- despicable scum that some think he is. How could I not? After all, he was the Nuggets coach when they faced Dr. J in the last ABA finals, a fine mentor to both David Thompson and Dan Issel -- both of whom have impeccable records -- and an Olympic Gold Medal winner (though that honor has admittedly been somewhat tarnished by Bruce Jenner and her relationship with the Kardashians).

Yeah, he was recruited by Frank McGuire to play for North Carolina.

Frank McGuire stepped down at UNC nearly 55 years ago.

He has to be around 70 years old. I went to Memphis to see Houston upset his Ponies in the AAC Tournament a couple of years ago. Don't know which I was more proud of, that Houston won or that we beat Larry Brown.

The question becomes: Would we be talking at all about SMU basketball had Brown not gone there? I think they figured that any news is good news, and to ride Brown's popularity/recruiting/success, until the wheels fell off. It's kind of like a bank that schemes $800 million and once they get caught they have to pay a $200 million fine. Still making money off it!

SMU will finish with highest attendance average ever at Moody
