Berkman's definitely sour grapes here, but his point about the rotation is valid. If we were Tigers fans we'd be happily noting the same thing.

As usual it will come down to luck and breaks and the baseball gods, but you'd be crazy to think our rotation mess works in our favor.

True. Thinking it through, you got Verlander -- who is Verlander. He's elite and pitching really well. That will be tough. After that, you've got Scherzer and Fister -- two high K guys who don't tend to go deep into the game. Then, Sanchez who fucking owns us.

The Tiggers bullpen is mediocre, and their defense is average. Peralta, Young, and Miggy are hot.

Pitching rules in the playoffs. We're going to get our chances, and our D is really, really good. We've got the home field, where they play without the DH. They struggle vs. lefties, and we're throwing two at them.

Fuck those decaying rust belt fucks. We got this.

Like sfsportsfan said, he's been talking a lot of smack. I guess because he couldn't play, he decided to talk it up.

Regarding our rotation, I think it may actually work out for us. The Tigers would probably prefer if we used our hottest pitcher (Vogelsong) or our ace (Cain) against Verlander. With the way it's set up, Vogelsong or Cain would start Game 3 and the other would start Game 4. Obviously he could change his mind, but Leyland has stated that he wouldn't pitch Verlander on short rest, meaning that JV would pitch Games 1 and 5.

I actually don't mind the two lefties at home. Regarding tomorrow..W or not, I just want to scratch runs off the mighty, indestructible, best-pitcher-in-the-planet Verlander..show everyone he can "bleed"

now imagine a situation where they can manage a win vs Verlander..a big opportunity to gain the physiological advantage tmw.

Also, the rotation has been passing the "best starter going" badge around..everyone's took turns holding it this year..but I wouldn't expect a troglodyte like Berkman to realize that.

His words = grain of salt

Yup..it's Sanchez' history vs the Giants that has my attention. I don't like facing that guy

If we won Game 1 against JV, our win probability would skyrocket. I feel good about this game even though all the experts say it's a sure Tigers win. Curt Schilling went so far to say that the Giants should focus on winning the series after Game 1. How ridiculous is that? What true competitor would ever give up on a game?

A commenter at SF Gate had another take. Game 1 is an absolute MUST win for Detroit. Lots of pressure on them. If we lose, well what did we expect. If we win, big blow to Detroit, more than a typical game 1 on the road loss.

Smart mental chess move by the Noggin.
