That aside, the Lakers are beginning to take steps in the right direction and in about a year or two with that young core and the addition of some FAs and more talent, they could indeed be really good.

If the young guys can continue to develop, they could make themselves attractive to top FA's. Also, as rule said, if they manage to keep the top pick, it could be used as trade bait. Although, if it's the #1 or #2 pick, they may be better off keeping it and drafting Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram.
