It is pretty odd to name Russell the starter only to bench him in the 2nd half. Just put him on the 2nd unit if you don't think he's ready?
This is my biggest issue with how he's handling Russell. I think Byron wants to bring him along slowly, but also knows he needs to play. So, it's like he's trying to do both at the same time. You can't do that, especially with a point guard. Byron either needs to commit to developing him slowly and start bringing him off the bench. Or he needs to commit to throwing him in the deep end of the pool and leave him out there to learn as he goes.
This starting him, but keeping him on the bench at the end of the game when things are more intense, isn't going to help him, imo.
