People forget that Dr. Buss passing really threw the front office out of whack for awhile. This wasn't just a team owner dying. The Lakers are a true family run business. So, when Dr. Buss passed, it wasn't just "the boss" passing and the employees still have their jobs to do. For Jim and Jeanie (and all of the Buss kids), this was their father passing. They were trying to mourn their loss while at the same time, trying to still run the business of the Lakers. I can't imagine how difficult that was.
Also, even some of the other Lakers execs like Mitch Kupchak, have been around so long that they may as well be part of the Buss family. I think they lost their way for a bit, but are done mourning and are once again fully engaged in running the Lakers.
In short, they now seem to be in a position to where we can see if they truly know what they're doing with their 3 year plan.
