QB depth is meaningless, but they do have nice RB depth. That's true. Breida is liable to get hurt any play, but the RN depth is great when he's in there.
Hardly. Having none ruined the Steelers season and having some saved New Orleans season. The Niners depth may come back to help when Garoppolo goes down.

It’s meaningless in determining how good a team is. You’re essentially a new team after the QB goes down.

Sorry, but that makes no sense to me. I gave you two current examples of what a huge difference it makes.

A guy who doesn't see the field doesn't make the team better. It's not like depth at RB where the guy gets actual reps. You have to start over completely and re-evaluate when the QB goes down.

Also, let's not get all wet in the panties over Nick Mullens at this point.

Now you are dipping in to the realm of absurdity. They see the field quite often.

You're not seeing the point about a backup QB. Out of 1000 or so passes this weekend, 5 were thrown by the guy who didn't start the game.

Depth at QB is not the same as depth at CB or RB or whatever.

Also, you're getting WAY ahead of yourself about Nick Mullens.

I say we have depth because we have two serviceable backups with game experience; guys who can win games with this group of personnel. Depth at QB is critical, just ask Sean Payton or Mike Tomlin; two who are seriously affected by it this season.

It's critical to avoid a meltdown season, not to win any given game when your starter is healthy.

Whereas a lack of depth at RB, CB, DL and so on can cost you any game, even when everyone is healthy.

Everyone is missing the point about backup QBs.

A guy who gets zero reps does not make a team harder to beat. They're an insurance policy.

It's not the same thing as backups who are actually designed to play in the game.

but it is very important to saving a season.
Ask the Eagles. Although I am fine with them being called Insurance policies.

Yes, they can save a season. But it's not the same category as the kind of depth you need every game.

How dare you...

PE1 is a gigantic homer. I'm being realistic about the 49ers. Their D is probably top 3 in the league, but they have other huge questions. And I'm not making any SB plans.

I think what got you was when you said "depth at quarterback is meaningless" and it is far from that.

That's why I backtracked and clarified what I was talking about.

If you're doing power rankings, you don't look at who has a better backup QB.
