Jack Kent Cooke (former kings owner) right before he sold them:

Cooke had been told that there were more than three hundred thousand former Canadians living within a three-hour drive of Los Angeles, and remarked, "Now I know why they left Canada: They hate hockey!"

There we go. So a little more than a front office person. I knew I'd heard that somewhere though.

I think LA is a great baseball city, might even be one of the best in the game. I believe it has something to do with the weather. Just a perfect climate for baseball year round. I make this claim after having lived there for seven years.

The Dodgers haven't won a title since '88 and Chavez Ravine/Dodgers Stadium regularly draws 3.5 million people per season, which easily exceeds the MLB average. I'll even lump in the Angels, even though they're technically not in Los Angeles, but they also don't have a problem with popularity.

I'd say Chicago, Boston and St Louis are better baseball towns than LA.

I disagree with two of those three. St. Louis is baseball town. No doubt about that. The people of St. Louis care about their Cardinals. As for Boston and Chicago, if we go by the numbers of attendance, which is always a subjective way of analyzing popularity, the Dodgers have historically outdrawn both the Cubs/White Sox and the Red Sox for about the past 25-30 years. Only recently have the Red Sox eclipsed 2.5 million in a season.

Are you saying the Dodgers are a more popular team than the Red Sox or Cubs? Lol, come on, stop it.

If I had to pick one sporting brand other than the Lakers that the massive population of greater Los Angeles will go bonkers over, it would be the Dodgers. How you want to quantify popularity is, like I said, very subjective, but lets not kid ourselves here. Los Angeles dwarfs both Chicago and Boston in population. If the Dodgers were to win the World Series this fall, I'd hazard a guess that they would get a pretty sizable crowd at their parade.

The Dodgers have a bigger stadium as well. Boston is a baseball town 1st. Dodger stadium seats 56,000, Fenway Park 37,499. 19,000+ seats per gameX81=1,539,000 extra seats each year. Last year the Fenway Park's average attendance was 94.4% of the stadium filled. Dodger Stadium was 82.5%. LA has more than double the population as Boston as well. This with Mass being 1 of the higher tax states along with cost of living. All 4 sports teams here draw well most of the time. Just sayin :suds:

I agree that the Dodgers are big out there. Great history with that team.

I am well aware of that. Hence, why I referenced the past 25-30 years of figures. LA has long supported the Dodgers probably more than any other pro franchise in the city. You'll note that following Boston's first World Series win this side of 1970, it has helped their attendance figures considerably.

Actually, adding seats has helped. Here's the numbers for 2001 (as far back as ESPN goes). The Green Monster seats weren't even there then.

They also added "Conigliaro's Corner" in the right field corner. I haven't sat there yet but really want to. I've sat in the Monster seats and IMO are overrated and over priced.

It's not a dig at your team, beantown. I referenced this site in regards to attendance:

^^ Every team that has ever existed in baseball have a complete record of their attendance. And I've thoroughly high-jacked this thread. At least I'm still talking about people attending something, right :noidea:

If the Cubs won a World Series you would see a parade like no other.

Hell, I'd probably light my own car on fire, just because.

I see this Kings - Hawks rivalry continuing for several seasons and to have two large markets with Stanley Cup contending hockey teams is nothing but great news for the league.

Lol, I would bet there would be a goat sacrificed in the north side of Chicago if that were to occur.

I agree.

Seems my hate has moved from Vancouver to LA. I found a new hatred level for the Kings this year, I don't like that team or city at all.

No doubt, I might even initiate the sacrifice right after I drive my car into the lake.

I think we'll see the return of Halley's Comet before the Cubs win a World Series.
