Here's a guy who won the Super Bowl and he couldn't even run his own offense - because he had to accommodate Peyton Manning - and then Brock Osweiler (who wants to be Peyton Manning - just in a different location) - to some extent - had to play Manning's offense when he went in - because that is what the Broncos had practiced.

This year Kubiak has 3 essentially new QBs, but each has the athleticism to execute Kubiak's base offense. This year - Gary Kubiak's offense will be unleashed upon the league. Without question - the Kubiak offense philosophy is a better fit - in terms of time of possession for the league's best defense, than Manning's final season of three and outs - hit or miss football. Last year's results showed the Bronco defense playing repeatedly with short rests between possessions.

Personally - I think a run first - play action offense - ought to fare well against the kind of defenses that have to constantly prepare for spread offenses out of the shot gun. Those defenses are lighter and faster and not built for power coming straight at them. Because the Kubiak offense has the ability with TEs, HBs and FBs to place more blocking at the point of attack - anywhere on the field - they will find many mis-matches for yardage.

One of the things - most discounted about the Broncos - the offense due to the new QB situation - will turn out to be a major plus - that best compliments this defense. The Broncos will be a much better team overall than last year.

Something that is not talked about enough ( outside of Bronco fans ) is the fact that this team won a Super Bowl amid chaos - Kubiak proved that he can keep control of a team under the most trying circumstances, and not only keep things a float, but he guided this team to a Super Bowl victory that, in hindsight, is nothing short or miraculous ..

As a first year HC here with the Broncos, he was not only attempting to implement his own offensive scheme, he was doing so in an effort to accommodate a legendary QB who was a complete square peg in the round hole - and when things didn't work out - that KC game was probably the most uncomfortable thing I've ever seen on an NFL field - Kubiak held everything together and stayed calm and kept the team calm ..

That wasn't Carson Palmer being benched

My point being that Kubiak knows how to deal with doubt and adversity , where I think a lot of other coaches and teams would crumble

I've had a few fans of other teams tell me that Kubiak really lucked into a Super Bowl going to a team as loaded as the Broncos. To me he walked into a possible disaster waiting to happen. The expectations coming off 4 division titles was still very high. Manning was falling apart and a terrible fit for what he wanted to do. Lost his high priced LT early on in training camp. Walked into his star WR being in a contract dispute with the team. And a lot more beyond that that went on during the season. Yet he found a way to keep the team on track and focused on the end goal.

Throw in just think of the coaching staff before this one that had a very similar team to this one with a much better Manning and the fact that now 3 of those guys are Head Coaches elsewhere yet they couldn't get it done with a similar group of players. I'm not saying they were a bad coaching group as I did like Gase and Fox but it just shows that Kubiak was a huge difference maker in getting this unit over the top.

Same kind of things were being said about Wade Phillips too. We saw first hand how a coach with no vision or creativity can hinder a defense with a lot of talent ( Rio ). Wade did a phenomenal job and utilized the mass of talent he had and knew exactly how to get the most out of that D.

Typically when you fire a HC it's hard to get them to return to the team as a d cord fresh off being fired.

That and Shanahan wanted a 4-3 front. For whatever reason he liked it and wanted it established here. Which at the time was not a bad thing. We were on the tail end of the RB heyday and had not gotten into the rule changes that turned the league into a pass happy one. So a 4-3, at that time, made way more sense. In today's NFL? Not so much, well at least to me, but then again, I believe our base defense is the nickel formation and I am quite happy that Elway not only agrees with me, but drafts that way as I argued that he should here 3 years ago.

Sometimes it isn't your choice to keep someone. Sometimes they don't want to be there. It has to be mutual.

sure but it was not tried I am sure ..like you said no one wants demoted ... And most are not going to try and hire a fired coach I am sure but this case I think Wade would of been fine with it until another Head coach gig came up .. I just felt at the time he was really happy here and was good enough hart to have stayed .. He kind of knew he was a Bridge Because he knew our owner wanted Shanahan ..

I read an article that Wade was furious about the firing and wanted nothing else but to get as far away from Denver as he could. I doubt he would have stayed then. Now, he has relegated himself to the idea that he is a better coordinator than head coach and probably would be open to it. At the that time though, he wanted the head coaching job.

I mean how many HC have been fired then went on to be an assistant on the same team?

Gunther Cunningham comes to mind, but it wasn't the year after he was fired.

Wade Phillips (years down the line)

I think we are pretty lucky to wheel him back in the way it was. :)

This is where the hiring of Kubiak paid off double. God ourselves a great Head Coach that understands the expectations of the organization but also a guy that has a great relationship with Phillips making it a bit easier to woo him back to Denver. I guess it also helps that not really any other teams were calling him at the time. Heck he wasn't even our first choice but thankfully Cincinnati blocked our chances of trying to talk to their guy.

If my memory serves me didn't Kubiak say before the Denver HC became available that he wasn't interested in a HC job last year? Right before the Broncos job came up? I believe there were teams that wanted to interview him and he turned them down. Changed his tune when Denver job opened.

I to this day think Elway and Kubiak were talking about this as the year went on prior to him being the HC. Just IMO.

I agree I do think they would have talked about this type of reunion. Elway from some of the rumors out there was ready to fire Fox and the coaching staff after the Super Bowl but hard to fire the coach that just got your team to their first Super Bowl since 1999. Would have been a very bold decision but maybe not as crazy hindsight as some would think.

I also do think that Kubiak loved being in Baltimore and that Denver was the only place he was willing to actually go to if a spot opened up. Had to be the right situation to get back into as the whole Houston situation didn't end well especially with his health taking such a crazy turn. So glad though that everything has worked out the way it did and we now have a great HC and staff that really I can't see any of them wanting to move on any time soon. I see one of the specialist wanting to move up before I see one of our coordinators getting a HC gig.

Yeah - and I think this is a BS story - put out there to conceal the collusion between John Elway and Gary Kubiak - who I don't blame - considering the relationship- is so good and you don't want a rash decision to ruin yout plan that has to wait until you get approval (or, at least until you fire the existing coach). Ockham's razor applies here.
