I think they are trying to avoid the Marvel malaise.

Those who know him will want to see him because of how it fits in the overall story. Those that don't won't be put off by "omg another one?!!"

of all the SpiderMan rogue gallery villains, Kraven is probably the best choice for a NON spiderman related movie... so i am ok with no Spidey references... but hard to do a marvel movie without advertising any marvel...

Not too much different than how they advertised Venom.

true... but venom was weird to have with no spidey...

i think my point, even though it was never even needed to be added, was that Morbius and Venom needed Spidey...

Kraven doesnt...

as for the entire marvel universe, of course Sony is bastardizing everything, using their spiderman licensing but want to stay away from the marvel universe... its tricky... But this movie it is easier to do that than the others... this is more akin to how V for Vendetta is a DC movie....

The opening sequence is great. I thought "OK OK Sony looks like you finally got it right outside of Venom." Then the flashback started and it turned to shite. The only good thing I can say is Aaron, Russell and Fred Hechinger were pretty good in their roles. And the action was solid... that's about it.

Ariana DeBose, though easy on the eyes, wasn't right for Calypso and had zero chemistry with Taylor-Johnson, problematic when she's his romantic interest. The Alessandro Nivola was a bland villian and how he was set up as The Rhino seemed bizarre? Worst of all the Kraven from the movie was not the Kraven from the comics. Kraven wasn't an animal rights activist or a vigilante whi only hunted criminals. He was called Kraven The Hunter for a reason. Ironically Crowe was closer to the real Kraven than the film one.

If Aaron and Fred come back to play Kraven and Chamelon in a Spider-Man film I wouldn't object but I can see why this only grossed 11 Million on $100 million + budget.

I’d give it like a 7/10, the action scenes with Kraven were pretty cool and he has a lot of creative kills that I enjoyed

But I’m pretty sure what killed this film is the same thing that killed Black Adam in the sense that when the studios announced that everything you’re going to pay to see doesn’t matter and this is the final film before the movie even comes out, it doesn’t really drive interest in people going to seeing it to see where they go next.

Combine that with the fact that the Sony Marvel-verse hasn’t done well at all outside of Venom this was DOA before even was released
