Knicks' focus leading into Thursday trade deadline is upgrading at point guard. And word is a new name intrigues them: Atlanta's Jeff Teague

There are issues if Knicks make full-on play for Teague, who has right of first refusal on any trade after Hawks matched offer sheet in July

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 1m
Also: Teague not only must approve any trade but also owns long-term deal that slices into Knicks' projected flexibility for summer of 2015

But Knicks said to be investigating all PG options since they're convinced top target Kyle Lowry is NOT available between now and Thursday

Anything has to be better than Felton, Teague would do that for them.

Teague's not a bad player. good speed, good handle. would be an upgrade over Felton...

Once again, the Knicks are considering slicing away part of their future flexibility for a quick fix now.

New York has been shopping around for a point guard as the play of Raymond Felton has deteriorated this season. Their original goal was Toronto’s Kyle Lowry, but they couldn’t find a quick deal then after the Rudy Gay trade the Raptors became good (relative to the Eastern Conference) and now Lowry is off the market as Toronto looks to make a little playoff run.

yeah....just about any PG is an upgrade over Felton, but not sure about taking on Teague's contract. He signed a four-year, $32 million offer sheet with the Milwaukee Bucks in the offseason, which was matched by the Hawks.

Like Stein mentioned above, that cuts into their 2015 max cap space. Chandler, Barfnani and Stat come off the books which = 45mil free'd up.

Who in the world is NY going to give us for Teague? They've got nobody to make a deal with because we don't want Felton or any of your other not-so-good players. NY isn't going to trade anybody to us that we want so this deal is dead before it gets off the ground.

That's fine and great that the Knicks are interested in Jeff Teague, but what kind of trade works?

The Knicks have no first in 2014 (care of the deal for Melo), and the Hawks aren't going to just give Teague away--they can get a lot better offers.

The Hawks maybe wouldn't mind shedding his salary for some expirings that can play, of which the Knicks have one. The Hawks wouldn't need Chandler (about the only good asset in New York that's not named Carmelo)--Hardaway may be ok but doesn't make enough money to yield anything in a trade; the Hawks wouldn't touch JR Smith--though he's occasionally good but also more often a distraction.

There's just no means for the Knicks to get Teague.

The Knicks have only 2 tradeable assets (Chandler and Melo); and the Hawks wouldn't need Chandler since they have Horford (when healthy) and Millsap who are both better and slightly better than Chandler).

The Knicks aren't going to trade Melo until he officially opts out....and there is a chance he stays so long as he realizes that the Knicks are waiting until Amare, Chandler and Bargs deals to fall off the books.

The Knicks aren't going to get Teague. That's about all there is to it. But then again the Hawks ownership, the Atlanta Spirit, have done some very dumb deals in their history so who really knows?
