The article in my title was published today at Baseball Prospectus. Goldstein includes some explanation of how he rates prospects and talks about his own dissatisfaction for not having rated Andrew McCutchen higher a few years back. Impressively, his list includes 6 Pirates:

09 Gerrit Cole
13 Jameson Taillon
42 Luis Heredia
43 Josh Bell
56 Starling Marte
76 Robbie Grossman

(What-Might-Have-Been Department: Miguel Sano is #12 on the list.)

Surprised Cole is ahead of Taillon but that core there actually gives some positive feeling about this team in the future.

Well actually shelby miller was available when we reached on sanchez. I remember talking to quite a few pirates fans who thought that if the pirates HAD to take a signability pick then miller wouldve been a better choice. Had we done that and also signed sano then wed have 8 of kgs top 101 and 4 of the top 13. We would probably have the top rated farm system as well. We would be looking at an average of adding one blue-chip starting pitcher per season for the next four years. We would also have two of the top power hitting prospects in the game in sano and bell.

In Neil's defense, there were a lot of good players left when we picked #4 that year. That being said, any of the 4 bonus babies could pan out to be just a notch below Miller, and for that matter, Miller could tire from the heavy workload he has undertaken since being in the Cardinals system.

Surprised Goldstein has Grossman is on the list, thought KLaw was the only one that high on him. I know Callis isn't a huge fan, will be interested to see where he puts Grossman when's BA's list comes out.

I wonder why Callis is not a fan... Grossman keeps getting better...He keeps getting better at very important skills like getting on base... cutting down on strikeouts.. and hitting for more power....All three of these things will get him to the majors! The fact that his glove has stuck and he runs well enough to be a plus runner in the bigs does not hurt him either...
