of the Florida Panthers...

The Florida Panthers have scheduled a Wednesday press conference where they will announce former NHLer Kevin Dineen as their next head coach.

Dineen, 47, has spent the past six years as the head coach of the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, and won the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach, as voted by members of the media, in his first season behind the bench.

Rats. Was hoping that wouldn't happen - for purely selfish reasons, of course.

Dineen did a fantastic job with a few Sabres players the last few years in Portland.

Hopefully he does well in the big leagues.

That sounds like great news. I don't know much about the Panthers. What is ownership like? If they suck, Scottie Bowman won't win there. On a good note, I'm glad we got Horton when we did. :thumb:

That's funny because I was thinking the same thing. I actually thought for certain that it must have been intentional.

Good for Kevin Dineed. 1 of my favourite players when he was with the Whalers.

Random eloco fact - When I was in high school, I really liked Vanbiesbrouck (spelling?) and painted a helmet just like the one in his hand. Think I still have it, might have to post a pic at some point.

Random Vanbiesbrouck fact - He was a Canuck for about three hours.
