Nice gesture on Kemp's part. He's acting like a class act this year with a lot of his off the field stuff. He never struck me as a solid dude before this year. I always got the impression he was totally into himself and his celebrity status. Maybe I was wrong about him.

With that said, $1,000 for every HR he hits before the All Star break would equal...(hold on, let me do some math)...that plus that, times that, carry the one, divided by the square root....

Okay, I got it. If you include the HR from last night the grand total will be..........$1,000.

He has zero power left.

But hey, it's the gesture that counts right?

This is bullshit. He's just buying attention. Very cheaply.

I hate cynical outlooks like that. Why do we (general public) feel the need to poo poo nice gestures on the part of celebrities? I don't get it.

I know $1,000 isn't much money to Matt Kemp. But it's more money than most people are giving. Most people aren't giving a dime. And every bit helps.

It's a nice thing to do. Don't overthink it. He's from the area, he wants to help, and he wants to do it in a fun & ongoing way. Will it garner him some positive pub and a little attention? I hope it does. What harm is it doing? Besides, he needs all the positivity he can get with how he's performing on the field.

Every time he hits a HR in the next couple months (if he does) it will remind people of the tragegy in Oklahoma and might even inspire others to assist.

Is there an ulterior motive? Let me break something to you. LIFE is an ulterior motive. Everything anyone ever does has some level of ulterior motive.

IT'S A NICE GESTURE!!!

It's definitely a nice gesture. What he did for that young fan the other week was also awesome to see. For those that didn't see it, he gave a young kid (pretty sure he was disabled) his jersey and cleats... after a loss.

That's right. Regardless of WHY someone does something nice or kind or generous or thoughtful, the mere fact that the act was done should be celebrated and encouraged.

With every act of kindness the world becomes a slightly better place. Do you think the family that might benefit from the $1,000 Kemp has already donated cares at all about motive? Of course not.

Does anyone think that disabled kid was any less blessed by that gesture because Kemp may have got some positive pub out of it? Nope.

There are so many bad things in this life to complain about. There are so many negative and selfish and shameful things that celebrities do with the spotlight they are given. Spend time picking on THOSE things. When a celebrity does something good...applaud it. And move on.

It really was a nice gesture on his part. Can't have enough of those sort of things.

That said, he'll probably go on the 60 Day DL tomorrow...

I WANT to hate Kemp. I REALLY do...

but...

This (as hollow as it may be) and his little strip-tease for the fan in SF make me gotta like the guy... a little.

Guys like this and Kershaw are causing my Doggie-hating pre-programmed existence chips to short.

Really nice? It's like you going down to your local newspaper to announce that you're going to donate $11 and you want to be on the front page of the newspaper so everyone knows about.

"Really nice" would be to just do it. Not try to garner a bunch of cheap pub. His ESPN player page projects him to hit 7 HRs and that's if he plays all 162 games.

I'm totally shocked. Are you out of your mind? You're going to stop hating Kemp and the Dodgers because he tossed his sweaty shoes to some kid and is going to donate $7,000 (about a nickle to us) to tornado victims??? He's a self-absorbed asshole of epic proportions! If you hate anyone on the team it should be him!!!

Did Shoktart REALLY just say that?

 Hammer, when you get to know Shoktart as those of us from the CBS board do, you'll take everything he says with a grain (OK, maybe a ton) of salt. He's just an emotional guy with frequent bouts of PMS, but his heart is in the right place.:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

Oh, they'd love him on the Giants board. He's without a doubt the biggest Dodger hater that's ever been on the Hoop, with no close second.

Kemp is now giving $250,000 in addition to his $1000 per HR.

I don't think Kemp is a problem on the field or off. He'll end up with 20-30 HR's by season's end as I really think the shoulder injury and recovery have been his problem this season.

Kemp is a decent guy whether he hits or not. The Dodger problems have been injuries, poor play, a bad job constructing this team by Management, and a Manager that, until today, let things slide.

Baseball.......you've got to love it.

Well, I guess I'll laugh at myself and agree with this statement. I don't love the "frequent bouts of PMS" bit, but I guess that's probably what I sound like half the time.

I'm not a cynical person in real life. But when it comes to sports I'm overly cynical & overly critical. I think perspective is a strength of mine in my every day life. But when it comes to sports I have ZERO perspective. All I can see is what's happening at any given moment.

shoktart, you sound like to the Dodgers what I've sounded like to the Titans since Baltimore beat us in the '09 playoffs. My friends/family almost had to do an intervention with me it got so bad.

He should have given 1K for every K or 1K for every home run hit by THE BOAR!

Kemp should donate for every K. The tornado victims would come out farther ahead.
