I'd think you keep Mookie. He's a little younger

Are the Red Sox like the Marlins now? Win it all, and then tear it down.

I did the math. The money due to player raises and arbitration is roughly equivalent to money coming off the books. If the GM really wants to get below the LT threshold, an additional $20+ million contract has to go. I think getting rid of Mookie or JD will be an enormous mistake. But, you won't find a taker for the other huge contracts (Sale, Price, Eovaldi) without offering a huge discount. So the team is kinda fucked.

Pretty sad that you will lose what may be the best player of this generation so you could sign a pitcher on the back side of his career. Ouch.

Not the ideal scenario but probably the best one available to them, assuming they can find a trade partner for JD (because I don't see JD exercising his option).

JD was having back trouble and he is really just an excellent hitter....Mooks has a great game all around. A bad back is super scary for a power hitter!

The Bosox would jump for joy if JD left on his own with his option, but I highly doubt he will. Mooks would normally be a must keep, but the Bosox have the three pitchers with big contracts who have big future productivity concerns.....they are in a tough spot if the owners insist on no luxury tax.

I wonder if they could buy out Pedroia's remaining contract years so that his salary will not appear on the annual payroll?
only if he retires and doesnt get paid:suds:

Mookie and JD are gone.. Sawx are going to go cheap and not get those two... Yet they have no problem raising ticket prices yet again, such BS!
